My problem is he is not a leader and does not seem to have an opinion on anything.

He very much is Seamus - just not in the public eye. He has managed to bring the GPA under control, oversee the negotiations with the FAI and IRFU and opening thereof of Croke Park, started to oversee the restructuting of the football and hurling leagues etc etc etc.
Not bad for a years work!!

This talk about salaries for the President and helping out Mike Mac with his employment situation is rubbish.
There was never any talk on this forum or the old about Sean Kelly's financial arrangements - enough said. It's too easy to criticise without the facts. Brennan was democratically elected as a leader and if he is not (a leader) then that doesn't say much for the members that put him there. If Mike Mac has chosen his career over playing inter county football then so be it - let him. There are always promising potential county players that rather than concentrate on football , concentrate on careers and consequently never get to play for Kerry. Stop the crying and let's get on with what we have.

Spot on KG I cant see the replacements either. Tadhgeen explain to me why any intercounty player of the calibre of those mentioned on this thread should be out of pocket or disadvantaged in the pursuit of their carreers playing for an organisation that pays its senior officials industry leading rates. If these players were to prefer their own personal circumstances then a number of our paid staff would experience managment in the real world. They would soon learn to value their wealth creating assets and that is not maybe

taking county players for granted will result in the not too distant future the likes of mike mc carthy becoming the norm.Look what has happened since '90.logos on the jersey, players allowed endorse products, stanta getting hold of broadcasting rights, the gaa and gpa agreeing how to devide 5 million of government funds, more games through the back door, funds coming in from the rent of croker to soccer and rugby. You can keep your head in the sand for another 15 years but the chances are the landscape will change and a HGV truck will come along some day and run your arse into the ground down around where your head was.

K07 - Steady on. Everybody has choices. At the moment some players only have the choice of playing intercounty football or doing their daytime job. Thankfully most intercounty players can fit both in.
Are you saying that if Mike was paid to play intercounty that he would pack in his dayjob? Or that the Gaa should arrange for time off with his employers?
Life is all about making choices. You can't do 2 things at the same time eg suppose Mike Mac was an International executive for an airline company which involved him flying all around the world, going through different timezones etc. He can't be lining out on the football field in Letterkenny if he is attending a work meeting in Japan.

I thought this was a Crokes thread! Anyway, not wanting to be picky or anything regarding the drawn game but....did McConville not foul the ball before scoring his goal or has that rule also been removed from the Longford GAA Referees handbook?....just wondering. As for nobody from Cross visiting the Crokes dressing room afterwards, I think that just speaks volumes...

so it would be wrong if it were possible to help out a lad maybe to get someone to cover for him if that was possible once or twice a week during peak season.

Longford referees yet again, first there was Bannon and now this new bunch. McConville of the 11 steps, one allowing a draw, another probably denying Duagh of one. Cross surporters claim McConville was fouled before the 11 steps therefore the score was justified. Did not see a foul myself but could be wrong, anyone else think he was fouled? Fouled or else it still does not condone the extra steps.

Tadhgeen the point is that the player should not be out of pocket as a result on his involvement. The commitment is enormous in time terms and extends to three collective sessions per week and individual training programmes on a daily basis. In terms of hours per week it probably amounts to 20 per week excluding long commutes.Your example would never be able to committ. Certainly players at this level are at least entitled to expect that where they can and do committ they should not loose out financially. Yes choices have to be made. But really can you expect players to forever make sacrifices when others involved in the association are fully paid for their time. That as a proposition is just unreal. Can the system exist on students teachers and self employed with generous time off arrangements !!!
