We seem to have plenty of cover and options for midfield and the forwards
in defence if mike mac doent come back we will have two massive voids to fill.
should we be giving eamonn fitz maurice game time here or stay with the young players like reidy and young, and also the older brendan guiney hoping we can unearth a few new backs.
its a big ask to expect younger players to step right up to county level at the first time of asking for the big croker games latter in the summer. I thinking here of marc and tomas when they first came onto the team, they were both quiet weak for championship football.
the backs could be a problem for us this year.

I am not expecting much experimentation for this game. Limerick have ran us close a lot in recent years. A lot depends on Tomas' leg. If he is out i expect fitzmaurice at 6 with o'mahoney at 5. Donaghy is out so will they go back to Quirke at 14 and give him another go. I thought the ball going into him in Castlebar was brutal and he could'nt win it.

I'd have to disagree Seamus in that I think if Tomas is still out, they'll give Ronan another run at wingwack. Quirke at full-forward might not be the only option...how about Donnacha. Hes done very well in the games to-date..at wing forward...but would definitely in my opinion be more capable of making the runs and creating the space necessary at Full Forward than Quirke has shown to-date. I take your point about the ball comin g into him in Castlebar but I think that was as much his fault as anyones. He needs to get moving a give the outfield players a moving rather than static target. Hes too easily marked (as anyone would at full forward) if he just stands in the same place all the time.

Fair comments Joxer. Have to say i agree with alot of what you say. Donnacha walsh is more mobile and good in the air. Also Ronan is moving well by all accounts.

I agree Joxer.Walsh full forward would not be a bad choice.

I would like a run out with Quirke there. Hopefully the ball would be better than it was in Castlebar. Donncha seems to be doing well in the half foward line: as a worker in the Paul Galvin type role.
Apparently Fat Tom will be sprung for the Limerick game: thats why his profile is so low here.

Just working it out there. All games are on that weekend so Kerry will be missing:
u21's Killian Young Padraig Reidy Darren O'Sullivan - if recovered Paul O'Connor
Crokes Players Gooch Brosnan O'Leary Cremin
Suspended Donaghy
Abroad Paul Galvin Declan O'Sullivan
Injured -possibly Tomas O'Se Daniel Bohane Brendan Guiney and Marc OSe have knocks as well Throw in Mossy Lyons who was sick for the last game and we might have to raid Carlow for a few footballers!!
Seriously though i can't remember a kerry team missing so many. Just as well Ardfert and Duagh have no representations. Presume Maher will miss the u21 game though.

if mike mac doesnt come back,we will be tight enough for backs, tom and aidan worked well as man markers on mortimer and mcdonald in the final,if you move them both into the central positions were they will have to hold the middle then you are losing something.
thats why i think we should be giving fitz every chance to reclaim centre back.
you can see now how thin on the ground were are for backs for the limerick game if the young lads didnt come through this year which could well happen.

That's the biggest injured list I've seen from Kerry in ages......since the days of Johnno running the backside off of them......
Would it be heretical of me to suggest Quill at full foward?

No. However,i don't think he is a great ball winner. He tends to prefer handy ball fed into him rather than winning hard, high ball. Gooch is actually a much better target man.

theres talk of moving the game to sunday 11th,that would make sence.
no,also,he didnt look interested in winning hard ball v fermanagh and his failure to win a 50 50 ball v mayo resulted in the goal at the other end v mayo that cost us league points.

I heard allright that the game could be on Sunday. It will really only affect supporters as i doubt if any of the u21s will be asked to play twice in 2 days.

Quill full forward? I dont think so. I would give a chance in the corner. What about Mike Quirke if he can't get a run when Donaghy is out what is the point of having him on the panel?
Pity this game clashes with the U21 game: could do with giving Reidy Young and O'Connor more game time.
