Are Mayo better off without McDonald........... Tommy Carr thinks so.
McDonald is to Mayo what the toll bridge is to the M50........... he slows things down and you have no choice but to go thru him.
I would play him at 14 personally

God I dont thisnk so. I happen to be a huge fan. I think he is an outstanding player. Just a pity that Mayo have not be able to build a team around him. In 2004 final he was the only one of 15 Mayo men who tried his all that day

kieran is a pure gent, i shock his hand 20 minutes after the '04 final behind the glass in the hogan stand inside where the big wigs sit on their padded seats,he looked at my out streched hand, paused, looked at my kerry colours, looked me in the eye, reached out and firmily shook my hand and moved on.His heart was broken but he was courteous and above all gracious in defeat,by midweek he was proberly manually laying heavy concrete pipes with his father in some trench on some building site somewhere, just an ordinary skin going about his life,un pampared unlike some of his less skillfull over paid footballing cousins across the pond. You have to respect the kieran mc donalds of the world, hopefully he can over come his back injury sooner rather than later.

I was talking about the effect his presence has on the team........... you know.......... the backs have to put it thru McDonald .............meantime the backs are the scoring options are being closed off.................
I agree that he is a gentleman and a shy one at that. Never said I didnt respect him..........its just that maybe.........maybe ............. Mayo are better off without him

i think mayo people would still like to see him part of their set up,i agree maybe full forward,i'd say he be ok corner forward also.
i remember people saying the same about maurice when kerry started to lose at the end of the '90s,that he was holding up play, slowing things down etc,its often the ones that stand out the most that are targeted when the ship starts to list, while the emonimous ones stay below deck out of sight.
anyway i'm off to croker,i'm still not sure whick way to call it,kerry werent prepared v mayo but still could have sneaked a win while they made donegal look ordinary in letterkenny before they wilted in the last 10 minutes,i cant see anymore than a narrow margin between the teams, maybe a draw.

Donegal finish it off with a few to spare, Sweeney has piled on the pounds but is a class act, what a sweet point he kicked at the end. Fair play to Donegal, they were simply better on the day, cant see either being around in late September though.......

Donegal started stronger and finished stronger. 3 fine points to win it from play. Donegal could go on a collective bender now and not be heard from again. If they dont and stick at it they will beat most teams and probably make the semi final of the championship and you never know after that. Mayo dont appear to have improved.

Same ole Mayo, panicky and still missing a real leader to drive them on. Ive a feeling Donegal will go a fair distance in the Championship this year but wont have enough to trouble Kerry if they meet.........

I agree Topcat but they do have a fair spread of scoring forwards......... the 3 winning points came from three different subs as far as I know

better team won, mayo dont seem to have what it takes.
donegal will be a good yardstick to judge the form of the northern teams during the ulster champion, youd still feel that trone or armagh could beat them on a given day,big joe will be plotting already, remember aughrim '86.
stiil both mayo and donegal should take a few scalps during the summer.
ps.y'ed still all be happy enough to see reidy or young marking mcfadden in august?

I watched the Armagh v Kerry quarter final a few days ago...... from 2006.
In the first half the Kerry full back line was ate.
In the second half the Kerry midfield and half forward line got going and provided assistance to the backs who got by just about.............
Its not like our backs over the past few years havent been beaten. Remember the farcical defending for the Tyrone goal in the 2005 final.
So.......... Young, Reidy etc should be ok

I went to the Division 2 Semi finals last night...saw four teams that wont be winning the championship. Roscommon were the only bright spark on a dull evening and they werent even that good.
Got tickets for free so I cant complain too much. Still think croker looks great under lights

Whatever about the overall quality (I've more reason than most to recall the awful All-I semi between these counties in 1992 ), I felt that Donegal finished in style, like a side that really wants to win & knows how to do it, and has the class. 3 great scores when it really, really mattered. I'm sure they wont make the same mistake of over-celebrating like before, McIver seems to be the real deal. What odds a Donegal-Laois final? Mayo werent as fit I think, and wont be too upset, they won the League a few years back anyway.
