It's probably better to look at it in terms of teams which we really like to beat rather than teams which we hate to lose to.

A Cork - Kerry final would be a real novelty for Dubliners..................... hearing the lovely soft lilt of Kerry and Cork accents as they take over the city.......... as they imbibe together in the hostelries and share the Hill together. The RTE cameras in Heuston capturing the multitudes of Green and red and gold as they alight from the trains. Up for the match with Des..... a joint rendition of the Rose and the Banks to top off.
in all fairness Rashers....... would that be wonderful

On second thoughts there's always the boring s hole in my head with a drill option

Boring a hole in your head is always a better option than "up for the match"

It wears thin mrtierneyesq and very quickly That's a sad comment on the inbalance of success in GAA, a few sides dominating. The golden goose is not well, lots of the best feed, but not happy with her produce, and her followers are getting disillusioned. Lack of competition surely results in poorer standards, in many aspects, including the media coverage

Were yoiu feeling that way when Dublin reached 6 finals in a row. Did you jump up when Brian Mullins scored that match winning goal against Offaly in 1979 Leinster Final or did you say........"Pity......... a win for Offaly would be good for the game".
Be honest

Be honest Of course I jumped up, but that wouldnt change the fact that I would KNOW, or believe, that things were not good overall. I do feel a swell of discontent and disillusionment amongst players & supporters in the past 2 years or so. I know it's not all about inbalance of competition, it's about lots of things, but here's a thought for you. I wasnt at all happy with how easy Leinster was last year for Dublin, and especially the quarter final, I felt it reflected badly on standards

I remember reading a Magill article by David Walsh who now writes for the Sunday Times. It was written the week after the 1986 Final between Kerry and Tyrone. He found it depressing that Kerry won the all ireland final by playing great football for just 25 minutes of the second half. He predicted that Kerry would go on and on and keep winning. Kerry entered in most barren spell in its history.
Its like boom and bust in the economy. Great players tend to be there for years and then they all retire together. Thats why I am so pleased that Kerry are unearthing young Reidy and Bohane.
However.........one man will be irreplacable.......... Dara o Shea as will Gooch when he goes.

Thats why I am so pleased that Kerry are unearthing young Reidy and Bohane. However.........one man will be irreplacable.......... Dara o Shea as will Gooch when he goes. True that things will of course change, but it's still sad when just a couple of the same teams dominate too much. That that Kerry team were still winning Sams up to 86 was also a reflection on how weak the opposition was, and to a certain extent that was also true of the 70s, though I do believe that at their peak both those teams were class. The only big games worth watching last year were Kerry-Armagh, Mayo-Dublin, and then to a lesser extent, Mayo-Laois, Kerry-Cork, Cork-Donegal. The rest was mostly poor, or very poor - either very scrappy, or too one-sided, or very loose marking (in the close games that werent scrappy) Not that a great team winning a match or two easily is always a bad thing, but after the past few years, where every Sam & most National Leagues were won the hard way, there's no evidence to suggest that there is any team in the "great" bracket What was very good for the game was the rivalry between Kerry, Tyrone & Armagh, which is what made the Kerry-Armagh quarter final the standout game. What's needed now very badly is a new rivalry, or if Dublin and/or Mayo had challenged the dominance of the "Big 3" last year. Which brings us on to this year, where currently we await the performances of Mayo & Donegal in the League Semis to see if they are getting to the All-I winning standard, and then we hope that one or two teams can challenge Kerry, or Tyrone if they resurrect themselves later in the year. The jury is out on everything really, as we dont know whether Kerry will have the hunger, will McCarthy come back, will the new lads make the grade & fit in straight away when it comes to the big games, will the new coach do all the right things etc. Tyrone await to see can they get some key players who have been out for a long time back in full fitness & form. Armagh must still be in with a shout, given the lack of any clear dominant team. That's a good thing, but I hope that a dominant team will emerge, preferably two

If the standard in Kerry, Tyrone and Armagh drops back to the level below of say Cork, Dublin, Mayo, Donegal, Galway, Laois........... and you had four close quarter finals, two close semi finals and a close final albeit not as high standard ............would it be better?
