Is there any reason why Cork dont produce top class forwards. For a county of its size its amazing.

Because they play hurling?? Producing top class teams across both codes is incredibly hard for any county to do. Look at Clare. They were very close to making a break in 1997 and would have only their two best players, a certain Frank Lohan and a certain Colin Lynch, were both involved in a nascent Clare hurling revival at the time!!
I once had the pleasure of watching Brian and Frank Lohan play in the first round of the Clare football championship one year. Frank lorded over everybody and scored a cracker of a goal!!

Because they play hurling?? Not a good enough excuse. Get this. Cork have 3 times the number of FOOTBALL ONLY senior clubs that Kerry have. They probably have 10 times more serior football only clubs than tyrone and armagh and 50 times more that fermanagh and offaly.

Is there any reason why Cork dont produce top class forwards. For a county of its size its amazing. Not really sure what the answer to that one is. I suppose with Christy Ring, there has always been a long tradition of hurling. The end result is that although there are more footballers than hurlers, it’s always treated as kind of a second class sport. Before anyone attacks me, I don’t agree with that! The general attitude, again not all Cork people agree with this, is that the footballers have left us down when it came to the big day. Young lads today want to be like Seán Óg and Joe Deane when they grow us instead of Graham Canty. (Well maybe not in West Cork!) Even in our local schools, it’s hurling and camogie they teach ever week rather than football. Not sure what the solution of it is, besides sending the young fellas down to Kerry to teach them how to kick points!

imagine how poor the hurling championship would be if cork were a footballing county only.

Kerrygold, it's funny you should mention that. I few days ago I was looking at the odds for the hurling games in the league. Lot of one horse races there. Do you think football would survive if there was such a difference between the say top five and the other counties?

In fairness the dubs are spending money and time in trying to promote hurling in the county. I would love to see them make the breakthrough.

A new face in the hurling would be nice just to freshen things up a bit, i really hope Galway get their act together this year and give the All Ireland a good run.

Congrats to the lads involved for this sign of progress after all the work put in. I have had a good feeling about this year since last summer, and survival in this League should now be achievable. Then anything in the Leinster Championship will be a bonus, Wexford wont enjoy playing us, and I have felt since last year that this will be a weaker year for Kilkenny, dont be surprised if Offaly catch them out. Whatever happens, it's got to be good for hurling. Lets hope a new revolution is underway, adn for example Limerick push on from their performances last year
