i've just heard kieran donaghy is suspended, its his 3 red card in 48 weeks.

hopefully eamonn fitz will get some game time shortly.

I want to see marc se at 3 and donaghy at 14. We were sending in aimless ball to quirke instead of the diagonal ball that donaghy thrived on. The big high punt up the middle is meat and drink to a full back. Lets get a look at Quill as well.

Do you think Marc has what it takes at full back Seamus? Would we not miss his mobility further out the field?
Disappointed to hear that the ball into Quirke was of the 'hoof it high and hoof it in' variety. It didn't work for him a few years ago when Jack O'Connor stuck at it for quite a bit of the league.
How did Quill work when he came on in Mayo? How was his distribution of the ball?

quill kicked a few points when he came on,it was his failure to win a ball played in that resulted in the goal at the other end that lost the game, the ball went directly up field for the goal from that. i think he passed one ball and got blocked down for another attempted shot.
i think tom could grow into the full back job with time, but i expect to see mike mac back there for the business end of things.
i think marc could become a great kerry centre back in the mould of tom spillane.
i wouldnt be convienced stacks that quirke has the mobility to win ball other than the hoofed variety, but hopefully he will get another game there in kierans absence.
i agree with seamus we should build our forward line around colm and donaghy on the full forward line.

I agree with Kerrygold on the hoofing of ball into Quirke...its not like Quirke was making runs and trying to create something. Mobility is a problem for him and unless thats sorted, and having seen him on a basketball court, I can't believe hes only capable of static positioning on a football field. It may be down to confidence but Mike, make the runs, try to create something...worse that can happen is they take you off which will happen anyway if you produce another display like last sunday. Don't know if Donaghy is suspended...thought not but if he is then Quirke will certainly start.
Suggested team:
D.Murphy M O'Se K.Young TO'Sullivan T O'Se A O'Mahony B.Guiney D O'Se T Griffin D.Quill B.Sheehan D.Walsh K O'Leary M.Quirke MFR

Real league look about that team.
Having not seen the match footage from the weekend yet, what style of football did Kerry play the last day apart from hoofing it into Quirke?

From a Cork perspective, Cork would need to improve on the last day’s performance against Donegal. McMahon was a big loss in the half forward line. The had improved as the games went on in the McGrath cup, not really sure what happened them against Donegal. Yes they went down to 13 men, but they should have had more scores up at that stage anyway. I didn’t get to see the game against Mayo so I can’t comment on Kerry.

I think you are right about Quirke, not sure he has the mobility. I have marked him in both football and basketball and while he has brute strength I found in football for a kickout all it took was playing behind him and punching the ball when he went to catch it. I'd like to see him do well, he's a real genuine fella, but don't think he will have an impact like Donaghy had.

when you sit down in the cold light of day and think about what kieran did and achieved last summer surely we should be trying to enhance those performances and build on them for this year. i havent see such raw natural ability at fullforward since the bomber rode into town,i can see what the management are thinking in relation to quirke but as branch said i dont think he will have the same impact as donaghy had there last summer, lightening really strikes twice. We proberly should be making the present model we have even better by giving him game time inside to develope his game even further for the future.

I think Donaghy has to serve a 2 week ban. It's his 3rd sending off for Kerry in a year.
