Midfield is the place for him. He's at his best around the center driving in then being inside having to gather, turn and shoot. He'd be better off picking up breaks outside.

hard to see him dominating a game like dara o se.Play him any where other than the full forward line,he might make a good centre forward in time,i noticed him chasing back v mayo in castlebar, something not normally part of his game.
he was dropped for the munster final replay last summer even though it was not his fault that kerry didnt win that game.A harsh decision at the the time i thought,He kicked a few great points from the half forward position in that game.
theres going to be serious competion for places on the half forward line this year.

He has played well in the center before for Sth Kerry, but i agree he wont dictate a game like Dara, but then again I dont think any player in the county could Whats the story with Galvin and Declan? Are they definately coming back?

Killian Young looks the business to me. He was very solid and took everything in his stride.
In my view the Donaghy plan does not work well this time of year. A heavy pitch, wet ball and swirling wind makes fetching clean ball a lot more difficult that Croker on a sweltering sunday in the summer. Winter football is about cutting out mistakes, holding possession and taking your opportunities. Quill was very impressive but does need coaching on his tendency to shoot on site regardless. Also he can really only play at 13 and we all know who will have that jersey in summer. What about Gooch at 14 for a few games?

the gooch can easily move over to no 15 without much fuss if quill became kerrys second best corner forward. However if he doesnt lose that shelfish streak on the ball he wont be kerrys second best corner forward.
i know what your saying as regards kieran at full during the league, however i rather see him left in there to develope his game during the good days and the bad days where he will be picking up little shreads of info, skills and know how for later on in the year. i think its unreasonable to expect kieran to dominate the full forward position game in and game out everytime he pulls on the no.14 jersey like he did v longford, armagh, cork and mayo. its quite possible that kieran might not be as conspicious at full this summer, therefore we will have to develope other aspects to our attack,i'm sure pat is very aware of this.We should be looking at kieran as a 3 to 5 year project at fullforward,as making an investment for the future. For me dec, kieran and the gooch represents our best strenghts on the fullforward line unless mfr builds on last year.

I am sure the Gooch would go to 15 if Quill or anyone else is doing the business. The question is will Quill do better than MFR come summer. He did alright the last day but he needs to learn to pass as well. That might be hard from him after being the main man at Strand Road. Gooch knows the value of creating scores for others. I am sure Pat OShea will be coaching Quills game. I am sure Quill knows what he has to do at this stage as well.
Another alternative in the corner must be Ronan Hussey he has been as good a forward as there has been in the county championship in the last 2/3 years if he doesn't get a run after that when will it happen?
Re Sheehan he is a great free taker and used to be a good man to kick points from play. His pace tells against him so maybe he needs to go towards the center of the field. To do that he will need to show he can win possesion. He does really well for South Kerry out there but obviously inter county is a big step up as a midfielder.

Ronan Hussey is excellent but is behind Gooch and Quill and again i don't think he can play anywhere except 13.
Pat O'Shea did an interview after the game where he said it is important to move Donaghy around to broaden his experiences (which are limited at both underage and senior level). Playing midfield will help his match fitness and also increase his awareness on what type of runs he would like a fullforward to make. Interesting point.

thats interesting all right seamus, kieran is far from the finished article,he has massive potential. He can be a small bit weak coming out to take a low ball from fullforward,ie one on the ground or just above the ground.Massive raw material though,he can only get better.
i wouldnt mind seeing fitmaurice get a game on the half back line,we know what tomas, aidan and marc can do at this stage.

I think Ronan Hussey is as deserving of a chance as anyone else. Best suited to corner forward you could give him a chance on the wing too as he is a good ball winner and very accurate with it for passing into the full forward line. He's been the best Sth Kerry forward for a while now and if he doesnt get a chance to prove himself in the league then he'll be confined to the bench for another year.

Regarding the likes of Hussey, Paul O'Connor Padraig Reidy etc realistically if they are not going to be risked in the league they are hardly going to be risked in the championship.
I know in the league you might not want to risk fellows in tight games but thats the only way they are going to get experience. While its important to go well in the league it should be also used to try out players.

I agree watchdahop. I'm a big fan of Reidy's but the backs ahead of him at the moment did a great job saturday nite. 2-2 cork scored. Bar Gouldings fine goal all they got were 2 James Mastsers' RIGHT footed points and the scrapest of goals.

I agree, we need to start throwing in some of the young fellas, trying different lads out in different places, so we can have the formula right again for the Chamionship! And also, if one of our 1st fifteen gets injured (God forbid) we need to know who is best to take their spot!
