Must be the good county air has kept you so fresh looking. I am surprised your heart was able to take it. The shock of a Kildare fella leaving it all behind to play for the auld enemy. And Castlehaven? You couldn't be up to those West Cork lads.

We better go back to talking about the transfers or we'll get banned. I find it a little funny that ye go on about Cork clubs when a few of your own have moved to Cork to play football. There isn't too many going in the opposite direction.

I never mentioned larry lads. Read my post again. I clearly said welcome to my world but sure you all forgot where my world is......................... Greed is the number one problem here and No pride. Does not matter to me where transfers go on Here or Kerry but... If a player is leaving his club for personal reasons to another club so be it. But if a club has reached out and offered cash to a player to transfer then in my book that club is wrong.

Oh yes, I remember that now Joan. You do have a valid point. But why would clubs do that? Surely it must annoy the lads who have played with the same club from a young age for free? Hardly makes for a good atmosphere.

But the clubs I'm thinking of have senior, intermediate and junior teams! Hardly short of players.

Joan, I don’t thing you can compare any transfers that happen in NY with Paddy Kelly’s situation. I spent a few summers there a number of years back. All championships are in essence bought out there. Donegal and Leitrim dominated through the eighties and nineties by means of the wallet and job offers. It probably has not changed much today except for the amount of summer players allowed per team. Knocknagoshel’s Mike Brosnan, the best player of that era and a possible Kerry great if he stayed at home, played for both of those teams. Leitrim became Donegal over night due to a fall out within the Leitrim club. Basically the only thing that changed was the name of the team and the colour of the jerseys, the players remained the same hence the transfer of dominance from Leitrim to Donegal. You would be hard pressed to find a Leitrim of or Donegal player amongst them especially in the case of Leitrim.
When the championship got to the semi-final stages the big names form Ireland came out and displaced the locals that got the teams there in the first place. Rumour has it that one of the finals of the late seventies resembled the previous September All Ireland between Kerry and Dublin. Great for the people in the stands but sucks for the displaced players.
Kerry probably has a different attitude especially today going by your team list. They seem mainly originally from the county. Then again Kerry have probably more players of a higher standard out there that the other counties.
Paddy Kelly’s situation is different because his loyalty should be to the club he grew up with. It’s where our love of gaelic football originated. I could never envision playing for or supporting a club 25 miles down the road where I have zero attachment as in Paddy Kelly’s case. Any games or trophies won would be superficial and of little or no meaning. Did he do it because he feels he needs to be playing a higher standard of football in order to enhance his county career? Mitchels will be back down to div 3 after this year, he is not allowed play in the league and surely this time it’s three strikes and your out when it comes to the championship.
Personally from now on I will be rooting against him for what he did to his club and I’m not from Ballylongford.

Joan, I do not want to diminish your great work and love of your club in NY, I appologise if it looks that way. Dan Donna going to the highest bidder is a situation made easier by the NY system, be it right or wrong on his part. I doubt very much if he would transfer from Beaufort to say Laune Rangers if he were still at home. He is a much bigger loss to his county at home as I believe he would make the corner spot his own, a rare talent.

Podge,i agree wit everything you've said about Kelly,i'd add Doyle into that aswell though, its not good enough for a player to just up and leave the club he's played with since he was a young fella and where he probaly learned how to play it aswell, how must all his old trainers and team mates feel about him now,i know id find it hard to get on wit a fella if he did that in my club.Club is about pride in the jersey and where your from, not about pickin and choosin which offer is better.
