Jack o Connor says that Kerry try to turn footballers into athletes while Dublin try to turn athletes into footballers. Is that an accurate comment?

What about Donaghy? We'll get rashers to give us his view on it before we can make a correct call on that one. Jack may have been wrong singling out Dublin. Or is a case of Kerry still being the only team who can actually play football?

Not far off regarding certain players, more so in the 90s, but to use a conversation about overuse of the handpass to make this point is disingenious and unfair - this Dublin team has played more kick football than any other in the past few years, IMHO

Mickmack, do you ever give a reply to an opinion, or just keep asking questions? It's not really a conversation this is it, more like an interrogation

The Bomber was another who wasnt much of a footballer at the start. Interesting that Colm o Rourke observed at the Dublin v Kerry league game that Dublin looked like a commando unit who could engage the US Marines in hand to hand combat but lacked footballs skills......

O'Rourke? Say no more, obviously a balanced view there. This team is much less physical than the 90s team.......and much less physical than the current Kerry team. Maybe that's why they havent been successful at national level

This is the cleanest Dublin team i have seen. Too nice at times?
I think that you are misunderstanding what O Rourke meant. I think he meant that there may be an over emphasis of gym work over ball work.

I agree that dublin play a good brand of football. They are just missing one or two more forwards and whelan for half of every game!

You could be right.........but what midfielders do you know that play great for 70 minutes, that are never by-passed for periods, that dont meet their match from time to time, that sometimes adopt a less prominent role?

whelan needs to produce it in knock out matches in August. To be honest I would blame him for the loss to Mayo........ I felt that the referee saw the challenge on McGarrity on TY at half time and in the second half he have a lot of marginal decisions to Mayo to balance out his earlier gaffe in not sending off whelan.

Whelo got concussed in the first half, and was off the pitch for 15 minutes at least. When he came back on, he was playing very well but Pillar moved him into the backs.

The Dublin management have introduced a "buddy building" system whereby players are paired off and ring and text each other to provide positive reinforcement in times of self doubt. Interesting.
