sorry to spoil the fun but is this not a Kerry GAA Forum? I think it's all to do with the new multicultural Ireland. Although I have wondered why any Kerry person would care what was being discussed on a Dublin forum.

In my humble opinion............ the writings by this person called "Maynard" are exceptional.
its up to admin to pull this thread if it wants to.
Its no harm to learn how others see the GAA world at times.
what do others think?

I think this is just a thread about the Jacks' angle on gah matters. On the Reservoirdubs site we have a forum called "Gach Rud Eile", another called "news", another called "other sports" but even in the "Football" forum everything will be discussed, such as other teams/counties. I dont see any difference between this thread and the "Non-Kerry" threads. I also feel that it's very good to have a thread like this given the special relationship that exists bewteen Kerry & Dublin Gah people. And it's a sign of the eclectic, ecumenical, broad-minded, intelligent, humorous curiosity of Kerry people ;D

Rashers....... i know antrim won but............ give us a report anyway Well, we knew the pitfalls of going there as big favourites, and us a very inexperienced team, on a wednesday night, in Belfast, Antrim with not much to lose and all to prove, and also with injuries. So I feel they slipped up badly but not a big surprise. We all know how often you see inexperienced underdogs get a few great results, then slip up when they are expected to win, the psychology of it is very common in sport. But that doesnt change that this looks like the basis of a very decent team and they will be competative at the higher levels for a few years touch wood. Now if the likes of Keaney & Rhyno & Dotsie return from the football, this hurling team could be a force to be reckoned with the coming years, I'd expect them to win a Leinster and maybe reach an All-I Semi. Beyond that, who knows! It's great to see a "new face" and more competition in the hurling, to see it open up again, hopefully like the 90s, and a good Dublin team would really add something extra. Wednesday night just has to be consigned to the "hard lesson learned" category, and there will of course be more hard lessons

You didnt choose the soccer in croker above the hurling in belfast surely? Jaysus, you asked me was I a Garda, and now I'm thinking you must be with your interrogations! As I was working on wednesday & play football at 7 in Phibsboro, I was never going to make Belfast on Weds night. I saw the last 30 minutes of the match in Croker on telly. Any more questions? Depressing 4 days for Dub Gaa, hopes got up, and well and truly blown

As Colombo used to say "Just one more question"......... were u in Castlebar today? Colombo, I was out at Fairyhouse Market, and later on Santry Kart City market, helping my brother sell charity craft ornaments. Now if you think I made that up, then I'm going to check myself into my own hospital

Rashers..................I dont think ye are going anywhere with the likes of Collie Moran ...... can for the life of me understand why he is captain.
It will be easy enough to keep Dublin to 10 or 12 points in the Championship unless ye unearth a big full forward. Its the only way of unlocking a massed defense.
Some of the dublin players didnt appear to be up for battle. I wonder is Pillar losing the dressingroom.

Mr Tierneyesq are you still wondering if Cahill can be compared to Thomas O Shea ? Take Brogan out of their forward set up and Jayo's 15 minute contribution and you are looking at Division three standard. Seriously I expected the Dubs to be fitter than Kerry by at least 20%, I am shocked. Cleaned out at midfield by Quirke and Scanlon beat up a stick by Reidy and Sullivan no answer for Cooper (within the rules) and Mr Up and Coming B Cullen couldnt deal with E Brosnan who must have been less than fit. I am totally shocked. You Know this is real trouble for the Dubs and few Kerry fans will actually take satisfaction in it but this is serious Trouble. I see Liam Kearns and a hungry Laois Team waiting, and the battle lads wont last twenty minutes. Sunday they drew with Kildare with a panel of 21 players (10 out with injury) We know Mr Kearns of old and you may look out in Leinster this year Mr Tierney, Something is radically wrong in that dressing room.

Kerry07 you've pretty much summed it up. If you look on the Dubs messageboard you'll see that most people have spotted all these things through the course of this League, and some of us earlier. My own point of view since last year, was that nothing less than a League Final & good performance would indicate that this team are going anywhere - I was already very doubtful; after they didnt reach the League semis last year, but allowed for the fact that Div 1A is very strong. Alot of us have been unhappy with management since last year, and there's no excuse for letting this situation develop, it must have been clear that things were going wrong. And yet, they won the O'Byrne Cup, with a very battling performance. And another thing, I feel it's a little unfair at least, to criticise or rubbish players, when it's clear that most of them dont seem to be fit or performing for this management, which is the fault of the management - the buck really does stop there in my opinion. Yes, they are not a great team, but they are alot better than this. In my opinion, it was mainly lack of leadership OFF the pitch that resulted in the defeat in last year's All-I semi, though I will admit that leadership hasnt been sufficient on the pitch either. As for Catser, dont be too hasty, the lad was played out of position, badly, last season, and was injured, so it's hard to reagin confidence & form. Also he's surrounded by a very under-performing team. Also disagree about Jayo, he does alot more than 15 minutes, but cant do much when the rest of the team are struggling, especially mid-field & half-back, who provide the supply. Agree about Moran, especially at half-forward, he's never really produced there. I do feel he is a very good half-back. Cant understand what's happened to Bill Cullen......should have been flying this year, coming into his peak. As you say, it looks like the dressing room has gone. All to prove, and little time & confidence with which to prove it. A very experienced squad, but thats not much good, when alot of the experiences have been bad............. I havent been so pessimistic in a long time, a great heritage is being allowed slide to waste, it will take another few years to build a new side when Whelo, Jayo, Rhyno are gone. We were very unlucky to lose Paddy Christie prematurely. As you say, Leinster looks like a real dogfight this year, last year was an aberration. Cant see us doing anything through the qualifiers, there will be some very dangerous teams in there from early on. all in all, looks very bleak. How was it allowed happen?
