Protecting skilful players like 'the Gooch'

I didn't see the club final but by all accounts he took another flaking both on and off the ball.
To counteract or at least highlight what he has to put up with, wouldn't it be great if in a big match against one of our thuggish northern teams we could keep a camera on him at all times like they did with Zidane in that movie.
I feel the turning point in 2005 was when the Tyrone goalie took him out of it but of course RTE wouldn't be smart enough to have a camera trained on the opposing half of the field when the incident happened.
I'm sure it happens to other skilful players in other teams also (and some of our backs are no angels) but it might kick the authorities into some sort of action if we had visible evidence showing what the most skilful and entertaining players have to put up with.

We certainly need to protect the players who fill the stadiums and inspire young fellas.
Gooch, Donaghy, Canavan, Maurice, mcdonnell, declan brown etc are the reason young lads pratice all the skills.
You get away with very little in rugby (ogara incident apart) and especially soccer with all the extra cameras. I presume it will come in time.

if it dosent skillfull players will adjust their game to survive,peter canavan become more agressive after that meath game,and he had to to become a winner.

It's difficult to adjust your game when somebody is willing to wait until the ball is at the other end of the field before 'clocking' your opponent!

Pony, do I need really need to explain that one? Just look at the Cork Kerry semi final last year.
And before ye all attack me, yes I do know some of the Cork backs are no great shakes either.

The problem is that the 7 officials dont want to know............ umpires look the other way. If the officials do their job the game will be cleaned up

totally agree umpires are totally useless in situations ocurring off the ball.

did nic murphy not get injured by an awkward landing?

Mickmack, one never knows with ye. Yes Pony you'd be right there with Shields.
What I was just pointing out was to say a few of your back not being angels was inaccurate. In fact I wouldn't really have picked any of them out as being particularly bad. (well maybe one of them ) Also, I don't think Copper or Donaghy have had any problems standing up for themselves.
