Cork V Mayo was a good game...a lot more entertaining that that rubbish in Croker...I am glad I didnt pay for my ticket .
I see cork are trying a Donaghy clone at full forward. He will work wonders for them in Division 3 next year. Carlow and Wicklow et al must be quaking in their boots.

cork we poor in the second half,i thought cussins did well enough,he has a bit of potential, anyone else think that mayo look very fit and sharp for this time of the year. I still feel mayo will be there or thereabouts this summer.
a kerry win is imperative now tomorrow with mayo joining donegal on 8 points, dublin have squezed up with 6 points.

Big big win for Mayo, a game that Cork had to win. I expect Kerry to win today, they will want to test themselves against the top team, and put Donegal down for possible future reference. Good weather, so this should tell us alot about where Donegal really stand, and how Kerry's new additions are blending in, and how hungry the team are overall

Jus finished. Have to say the kerry defence were appalling. Thats the only word for it. Tom and Marc Se were the best by far. How many times was the ball run straight down he middle where O Mahony was meant to be?. Tom Sullivan was totally out played. padraig Reidy and Mossy Lyons were totally overran in the game. Why was Tom O Se taken off? Kerry suffered once Kieran Donaghy went off. Seamus scanlon was pretty effective during the game and mike frank started like a house on fire. Himself and quill went out of the game once star was forced off. I think that the kerry players were warned to watch their discipline and not be sent off today. Which is fair enough but I think sometimes you need to play with that bit of steel. The velvet glove and all that. Donegal tried to bait a number of the kerry players and played fast and loose with the third man tackle. I think if kerry met fire with fire and threw a couple of punches early on it would put them back in their box. Kerry need t play with the hard edge they had under jack. Hit hard and play hard.

Well, what a turnaround in this game. Donegal looked away with the fairies in the first half, whilst Kerry from Half-back to the forwards stroked over classic points. The one warning for them was that Donegal were carving through for goal chances, and Kerry not threatening at the other end. The goal was crucial and came at just the right time for Donegal, who had been frustrated by Murphy and missed good chances. The second half saw Donegal win oceans of ball (and they had a fair bit in the first half), dominate from Half-back to HF, kick alot of wides, but eventually overcome due in no small part to the genius of Devenney. (If he hadnt missed that one easy chance it would have been a great performance). Kerry never looked like getting a goal, no doubt they missed Cooper, and then Donaghy. Overall this showed to me that Donegal have alot going for them, especially great hunger and fight, and will be the team to beat in Ulster, unless Tyrone revive very quickly. Having said that, they lack overall scoring quality, but if Sweeney gets back to full form & fitness, they will be a real force. Hard to know what to make of Kerry, defensively they look very dodgy at the moment, and not surprisingly they lacked the hunger of Donegal for the League.

For the past few years I've always thought that the Kerry defence was very susceptible to teams who run at them as opposed to playing the ball in long. The long ball game seems to be like bread and butter for our lads; however, when teams start running at them we seem to get opened up very easily....take Longford last year for example...we were made look very average. It always suprises that more teams don't play a running game against them!

Cussen is a bit green yet, but hopefully come championship and hopefully we have all our forwards to pick from, we should hopefully see an improvement in our fortunes.

joxer, you are correct! But watching the game the other night at one stage I was thinking that things were finally improving and then to lose by a point... What's the saying, "better to be born lucky than rich"... Cork need a bit of luck. Over all they aren't as bad as results would suggest, but in the end of the day that's all that matters. Also the substitutions made the other night were a joke.

i was v impressed with donegal gr8 resolve shown as i thought u boys were out the gate come half time, deffo 1 to watch in ulster this year donegal looked ropey enough in front of the goal, pardon the pun, while kerry were able to live with them for 55 to 60 minutes.

no excuses, better team won, kerry are a long way of fitness yet.Mayo and donegal look very fit at this early stage in the year and must be favourites now to reach the semi's.
i'd say its about staying in div.1 now, a win from one of our last two games should be enough to achieve that.
i still think the backs will be a problem area for us this year,it may mean bringing back people like tommy griffin to wing back and maybe eamonn at centre back.
i'm not sure griffin is contributing enough in the air to complement dara.Brosnan might be considered here yet.
sean ban, galvin, darren, sheehan were all well of the pace yesterday.
mfr is chipping away nicely, his kicking is improving all the time, compared to this time last year,i cant look beond a full forward line of gooch, donaghy, mfr for the championship, again as with fermanagh when donaghy went off we lost direction up front.
hopefully kerrys fade in the last 10 minutes can be put down to lack of fitness.

Congrats to Donegal... We get to see some big flaws in the Kerry game again- 1. Over influence of Donaghy in the forwards.. When he went off yesterday the forwards stopped clicking.....so did the supply they may say!!!! 2. Suspect enough defence that needs serious tightening and the right combination... Goals win games and if they are allowing teams in for loads of goal chances then they will surely pay sooner or later. 3. Lack of support for Daragh O Shea at midfield... Griffin is just about ok but maybe Brosnan will be there come championship time.... ( especially with lots of competition at half forward) 4. Fading out of games when it mattered most.. ( hopefully just a fitness issue though). If the same thing happens against Tyrone and Dublin we will all be worried..and maybe the rumblings of self- doubt will gather huge momentum.. Its a great opportunity for Kerry that the last two games now are against big opposition. If we win both we will proabbly still make the semis). They will be huge tests for Kerry, and could give us great confidence again (or some more doubts ) going into the championship.. The loss of Donaghy will have to be looked at as an opportunity to develop our other attacking options than something that is solely going to undermine us in the forwards.. The honeymoon is well over now from last year..... Time to show if we are going be serious contenders again.

If Kerry arent as fit as Mayo & Donegal then that would explain alot. I didnt think Donaghy made all the difference yesterday, alot of the Kerry scores came from mid & half-backs running through strongly, and great ball coming into the forwards. Is it just me or do Donegal look a bit small in too many positions? Interesting times, next weekend's games are do or die for alot of teams in the League.
Did anyone have a better view of the incident with Dara O'Shea's elbow, the Donegal lad, and somehow Galvin as well on the near sideline (nearest the camera)?
