Joxer,
I couldn't agree more, and it's time to stop beating around the bush.
Losing to Clare was embarrassing.....the attempts by the management to distance themselves from it is worthy of a place in any joke book.....
Did you hear the one about the lad who managed a team, underprepared them and then turned around and blamed everybody but him!!
Why has there been on word on who is going to be the manager next year?

I am not convinced that Kerry have full bought into a proper planned and co ordinated underage development programme as clearly the Northern Counties have. The issue has been well covered in the past on the old forum but honestly it only receives serious attention when we fail at senior level. We must change in this regard. I cannot honestly see the product of our so called conveyer belt of talent in the current panel. Our current ability to develope class footballers(FORWARDS) will not sustain us going forward.Looking to the current senior panel can we really replace defenders like Mc Carthy and Pony. Where do we go to replace Eamon Fitzmaurice,Tom O Sullivan and Tomas O Shea in the next number of years/months. The replacements are not there currently in my view. Armagh /Tyrone have built their current success on underage structures that place value on integrated coaching and physical development from the age of 16yrs. They dominate underage football. There is a clear connection between underage success and senior success and dont be fooled into thinking otherwise. Look at this years U 21 panel and ask yourself, apart from the few involved at senior level, where and when will the development of these players take place ? If it doesnt happen in the current year in my view their potential as footballers will never be realised.

There's two ways of looking at your post Kerry07.
1) You're spot on. Enough hasn't been done.
2) Kerry County Board has begun to make progress towards developing underage elite structures which are already in place in other counties. Though enough wasn't done in the past, it is being done now. Having said all that, for the much vaunted "depth of talent" which Armagh and Tyrone supposedly have, both were reliant on older players in the past two years and when injury struck, Tyrone couldn't rely on new talent on last year!! Consider then that Tyrone last won the U21 six years ago and were beaten at the weekend by Armagh in the Ulster quarter final, and that Armagh have only won it once, in 2004!! Galway, Mayo and Dublin have won three of the last four and though all have contested recent All Ireland quarter finals and semis, none have made a real breakthrough at the senior grade because of a promising bunch of up and coming talent!!
U21 apart - blame who you want, we were a joke for the past few years - Kerry has been producing the goods at all levels in recent years. What's currently missing is a positive, creative attitude to how we treat the U21 set up.

The talent is there they just have not found the right management to make it all come together. A lot of that u -21 team will been seen at senior level very soon but something more is needed. But who?? Bomber or Kennedy would be a good choice... Its time to put more into the u-21 lack interest is not good enough. Any time a game is lost its they entire unit that looses. Not just the players. Accountability lays at management level.

Stacks winning the competition out, at this grade, while desirable is not essential. Competing at semi and final stage on a regular basis is essential to developement. Failing to progress beyond provential level in Munster is a cause of concern to anyone looking to the next two to three years. Yes we have been very successfull at senior level in the past decade and indeed at minor level in the past four or five .I am concerned that attention to detail at underage level will ultimately be our undoing.Where have players like Doona and Declan Sullivan {Lispole} to mention only two gone to ? Would guys of this calabre slip the net anywhere else? It is good to hear that structures are being developed. They should be our priority in the immediate term.Blame Stacks is a waste of time.

ps the inability of others to exploit at senior level their recent underage successes is no argument against putting in place better structures.

Yes, well I hate to say I told you so but..... How do you make out mickmack that the minors of 2004 were poor? They contested the A.I. Final and at best, could be said to have been unlucky not to have win it. Tyrone adopted the tactic of taking Darren o sullivan out of the game so they obviously though that if they stopped him they would stop kerry. They were right as it turned out. That kerry minor team was a one trick pony as far as the forwards were concerned. By the way....... Tyrone are also gone from this years U21 championship......beaten by armagh. Fermanagh beat Down in this years U21 and Down won the minor all ireland in 2005. Strange times at 221 level!!
