So, from my view, John O'Dwyer is saying that Kerry weren't good enough. Well, thats ok then, problem cleared up. These same players were good enough to get to All-Ireland Minor semi-finals and finals over the last 3 years but were found out last Saturday in Clare. Of course, I had thought it was something to do with preparation and management in particular but clearly not. The players simply weren't good enough. Ah yes...................

Finding managers is not as easy as it sounds i would say. How long has john o dwyer left on his term of office.
Very few people have time any more for anything.........

Ah MickMack, it can't be as difficult as all that....surely we could find someone who has managed successfully at some level to take over the U21s. As far as I know, O'Dwyers term is up...it ran for about two years too long in my opinion but then.....

Here's a list of possible who could do the job
Bomber seamus mcgearailt jack o'connor - why not? its a short season pat o'driscoll james o'sullivan sean counihan john kennedy
All of these have impressive coaching pedigree's which John O'Dwyer did not have.

Fellas have very short memories around here. I remember the exact same sort of comments being said about Jack O'Connor after Kerry lost to Waterford saying he's a terrible manager.

The manager can only do so much in a short time. How long did the squad have to prepare? Were they at it as long as Clare? Why should we have the God given right to beat the likes of Clare each year? Didn't we have a few tough games at this level when Paudi was the manager?

The only problem is that there is a change of the guard at county board level this year. The new chairman will want to put his own stamp on things and could pull a rabbit from the hat!

paidi?,clare wouldnt have beaten kerry if paidi had been in charge.
wouldnt it be great if the county board could pay jack and pat a wage to develope and run developement squads in kerry.

I see that the Clare boys were beaten comprehensively by Tipperary. No further suspension of judgment required. The 04 minor team were quiet competative from my recollection. It occurs to me that only the most practiced of cynical tactics deprived them of am all Ireland. Time long ovedue to implement a proper underage development plan.

Yes, well I hate to say I told you so but.....
Theres been a bit of revisionism and 'explaining away' on this thread since the game in Kilmihil. Comparing Jack O'Connors record prior to taking over the Kerry seniors and John O'Dwyers record is very insulting to Jack. They shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence. Yes, there was criticism after we lost to Waterford under Jacks management as there always will be after a defeat but comparing that defeat in terms of performance etc with the 'event' in Kilmihil is silly. Again, no comparison.
'Why should we have a God given right to beat the likes of Clare each year'....we don't, Tadhgeen, and no one is suggesting we do. But we have a right to expect that any Kerry team taking the field in a Munster Championship U21 game will be prepared, organised and have with the right attitude. ' Didn't we have a few tough games when Paidi was the manager'....and your point???
How do you make out mickmack that the minors of 2004 were poor? They contested the A.I. Final and at best, could be said to have been unlucky not to have win it.
Tadhgeen, you say 'The manager can only do so much in a short time'....the time was no shorter than Clares and what, as one example, about Luke Quinn? Outstanding full-back, fullback on the Crokes team in the A.I. club final on St.Patricks Day but not good enough to play full back on the U.21s. Surely, the basics require that you start with your best players in their best positions? Sounds simple but seems like an obvious place to start...to me anyway.
I'm no cheerleader for Paidi...far from it in fact...but you're spot on Kerrygold when you say Clare wouldn't have beaten Kerry if Paidi was in charge. No question in my view.
I can't understand how this is being forgotten about and swept under the carpet. Or we satisfied with the success achieved and don't feel too bothered about U-21s? beats me anyway.
John O'Dwyer says the players are not good enough....that says it all about O'Dwyer in my book. Clare were beaten by 16pts by Tipperary. Any one betting on how much Cork will beat Tipp by?

i thought as much, the indo carries the scoreline tipp 5-08 clare 0-07.
that scoreline says it all really, sums up what happened
you dont have to look to far away to see teams similarily badly prepared and uninspired, take a look at the ireland and england soccer teams over the weekend, underachievement.
