No Kerry county team should be losing to clare. Anyone at the game? This is a disaster and serious questions must be asked of the management who have messed up twice in 2 years.

shocking, how did a team that were picking from a group of players that contested 2 all-ireland minor finals and a semi final in the last 3 seasons only manage to score 6 points against a clare team.Thats smacks of carelessness and laziness.
The management and co.board would need to answer questions on that one.The players must have been spirtless and un driven to allow this to happen.

Clare have a very strong team I said it in an earlier post. They have for the past number of year grown at minor, You are going to see more of this team they will come out of munster. I believe they will be giving it a run this year. Mistakes were make by managment and some palyers were omitted for the starting 15 in my opinion also could have played a few lads in different postions. Dissapointed with the result

I was at the game Seamus and the performance was one of the worst I've ever seen from a Kerry team at any level....and being very honest, I'd lay little enough of the blame at the door of the players. This was a Kerry team with proven good footballers on every line from Goalkeeper to corner forward but with some notable exceptions, it seemed to me they were sent out with the idea that we only had to turn up really, the jerseys would win it on their own, Clare would buckle, no sweat. There was basically no plan of how we were to play. Going in at half-time trailing by one point, corrective action in terms of outlining an approach for the second half (an approach by the way which was glaringly obvious but equally glaringly not implemented) was a clear requirement and I fully expected Kerry to come out totally focussed and set about winning. Instead, the first half performance played against the wind (and the hill!) proved to be the best we could muster. We resumed for the second half clearly even more over-confident than ever. Players in possesion had no options and didn't appear to know what to with the ball when they got it. Daniel Doyle was never moved to centre-back, David Moran, the best player on the field by a country mile, was never utilised to our best advantage, try though he did.. When it was felt in the second half that Padraig Reidy needed to be moved to corner back, Dan O'Connor (smallest man on the team?) was moved to fullback and not Luke Quinn, the best natural full-back on the team! Kieran Brennan was left sitting on the bench, Kennelly was left at wing forward rather than centre-forward, I could go on. We had absolotely no plan, plain and simple. I don't know what was going on in training but the team certainly looked liked they had just got together before the match. We were arrogant and over-confident. With the exception of David Moran and Luke Quinn and to a lesser extent, Padraig Reidy, no one really emerged from this with much credit. Kieran O'Leary, if he got better service, could certainly have done damage. Is there a footballer anywhere with less natural energy than Tommy Walsh? Clare may well win their next game and should if they were any good have beaten us out the door but I wouldn't be too sure. From what I saw, there no great shakes but time will tell. Our approach and attitude stank and its not good enough.

No Munster title since 2002 in this grade. Over the last three years our minors got to two AI finals and lost a semi final by a point. Then we turn around and can't beat Clare. This grade is much more important than the minor grade for grooming senior players. It should also be used to groom potential senior managers.
What about Dillon from Duagh or Pat Driscoll or anyone who could make a go of it.
We built a lot of our current senior success from U21 sucess in the mid to late 90s.
I hope the joke we have made of the U21 grade over the last few years won't come back to haunt us.......

kerry need to get a quality manager in there all right for next year.
maybe john kennedy might move up a grade next year.
its crazy so many of the former great kerry players from the golden years are not involved with under age teams in kerry.
how about someone like seamus moynihan for next year.
look at the job roy keane is doing at sunderland,a young manager just retired from playing.A driven man born to be a winner, same characteristics as the great seamus moynihan.
a back room team of seamus, cinneade and liam hassett would be interesting next year.A great place for them to cut their teeth at management.

I was amazed when John O'Dwyer got the job, and I was equally amazed that he was kept on this year.
Clare minors were decent without being earth shattering over the past few years, Kerry minors had far more success. Consider it this way: we have had minors in two finals and a semi in the past three years, we've won two and lost one senior in that time, we've won a junior All Ireland, we have a club in the All Ireland club final, we have dominated junior club football since it's inception (Duagh getting to the final being part of that great run), have just won the All Ireland intermediate club title and have two schools in the Corn Ui Mhuiri final.
How we can't even produce a Munster title challenging team at U21 with talent at every other single level of competitive football, bar Sigerson, is beyond me.

Maybe the u21 players are playing too much football in kerry....... with club, county, college etc Too much football? A lot of these fellows will now play one match with Kerry this year... There weren't a lot of fellows on that team that went too far in the Sigerson either Losing to Clare is hardly a solution to burn out.

agree with watchdahop here, for me the biggest joke is the college teams playing in the mcgrath,o byrne, mckeena and FBD cups, whats the point in this, mickey harte certainly gave it the two fingers this year and he was right.
there calling in croker to scrap the u21 championship, thats a joke.

Spot on Kerrygold. College teams playing in the mickey mouse cups is a joke and it is this that is most responsible for burning out young players. It also prevents proper preparation for u21 grades. Lads like Paddy Curran (IT tralee), Moran (ul) were playing much too much football lately due to these cups especially.

Why was Anthony Maher playing in Croke Park while the U21s were playing Clare? Surely it is the norm in the GAA for one game to be put back to allow the player to play in both games. Maher would have made a massive difference in clare and now misses out on the chance to represent his county at u21 level. Did they take clare for granted.

Pat O'Driscoll wouldn't be a bad choice for manager in my opinion. Very disappointing to lose out with such good players at our disposal.
