i'm just wondering after sat event in croker how u all feel now.i for 1 was against the queen being played but understand that is is the norm at int matchs no matter what sport but as the band started to play if found myself feeling.......disgust?no.shame? no.hard as it was for myself to believe i felt nothing and once again those rugger fans embarressed the gaa lads with the perfect reverence showed to our national anthem.i hope this year the gaa fraternity can show the respect that the rugby lads do

I was at the game .... on the hill.
Around Jurys Hotes before the game there was a strange sort of tense atmosphere. After the president had met the teams there was a long pause before the anthem. The cops in front of the Hill looked very nervous and looked as tough they expected something to happen. Whn God save teh queen started it seemed so loud it was increadible and the volume from the singing was very high. The sound of our national anthem wasnt as high for some reason even if the singing was.
Every shade of opinion was on the hill........... prods, Southside dubs, Gaa men from munster........... Rugby has mass appeal

One thing really makes me laugh about the whole GSTQ "controversy" nonsense - it was played THIRTEEN times during the SPecial Olympics in Croker a few years ago....... Here's another thing that made me laugh:  |

i brought 2 lads down to the game 1 english and 1 irish (good run) and they said that u could have heard a pin drop when gstq was played no booing or anything else for that matter,do u think this shows we've mayb grown up as a nation(well some of us)

Are you sure about that? None of the events or medal ceremonies were held in Croke Park, just the opening and closing ceremonies and I can't see why God Save The Queen would have been played 13 times during the opening and closing ceremonies. |

Good point Jo90...if it was played 13 times during the opening and/or closing cermonies, not only would it have been provocative because it was british as some suggested 1 playing of it last saturday was going to be, but god almighty it must have been due to the band having a very limited repertoire and provoacative anyway because of the sheer boredom factor...Welcome back Rashers, factual to the last.......

They were having the debate over on Regelgaa.com with the last few weeks and I think it was estabilished that it was never played in Croke park. Someone took the time to ask the organisers of the special olympics.

I was in the canal end ------------------ Brilliant !
I was so glad that it went off without a hickup - Time goes by and life goes on - The Irish looked bloody great out of this and it along with the French match made everyone across the world see what the Irish have in abundance - Class... and an indigenous game and culture unlike anywhere else in the world .......................... Bloody marvelous !

What I was thinking when I was hearing GSTQ on TV was: if you were going to be offended by GSTQ what the hell would you be doing at the match? Hence it was no surprise that there was no booing.
Its another Y2K/Avian Flu type media driven story: hyped to the last but when it comes down to it you are left with a complete non event!!

Spot on watchdahop. I think the media badly misjudged the mood of the country...it was hyped up to try to make news in my opinion. very glad it turned out the way it did. As Dermot says, we have class and we showed it off to the world.

I was listening to it on TV via a French channel we found that was broadcasting it and I found myself very proud of the reaction the Irish people gave to the team and the anthem.
And having been at the French game, everybody commented how we honored Amhran na bfhiann to the very end. And it was special. Lets hope we can do the same this summer.

Very proud of how the English National anthem was handled! Even prouder of the scoreline!
Watched the game in an English pub in Santa Monica sitting next to the actor Peter O'Toole (who was quite lively for a man of his age), there was more Irish there than English and the atmosphere was cracking!
A great win to top off a great occassion! Seeing the look on some of the Irish players faces when Amhran Na bhFiann was being sung was enough to make anyones heart burst with pride!
