While the interview with Daragh o Shea by Tom Humphreys was excellent, it did bring home to me just how difficult management is.
It takes extraordinary skills to keep 30 guys reasonably happy.
They all want to make the first 15. The most assertive guys on the field could be your most difficult players to manage off the field because they are assertive by nature.
Apart from managing under 8s and under 10s I have no experience. Managing that age group was hard enough.
Have any of ye experience of managing adult football or hurling teams?

never a manager,
but i did play under a former kerry manager at underage level.(up to minor i think)
i remember him saying it was tougher than any kerry job!!(maybe thats coz of the young fellas involved)
but it seems like Darragh could be awkward ennough at times. id put up with it if i was Pat, he'll be big for us this year. we would be lost without him.

I could be... but unlikely.... Ah I suppose now that Canty seems to be back, they should do okay this year, so I can continue with my research for another bit.

Jack o Connor, John o Mahony, Mickey Harte, Ger Loughnane, Brian Cody, Mickey Ned, Declan Kidney .......... all are teachers and have got training in how to deal with groups of people............. this must be of some help.
Then again Sean Boylan is probably the best man manager of the lot ............ he is probably using a potion to keep them all happy.
Which leaves Micko Dwyer. Isnt roguery a powerful tool.

I've always had a longing to manage a team......I've been fortunate through my job to be round both professional and high end amateur teams form time to time and it's incredible the detail the manager and coach go into.

Kids were great well behaved etc, Never had a problem there. Parents different story. No but it was too much pressure not worth the hassle for me anyway. I do the side line well assisting the managers at underage and our own two teams think at times they would turn up without the ball sometimes, but the pressure to keep all happy, naming teams making the right choices, not from me.
