There's a tear in the eye in Tingtang. My favourite place in the world. And missed.
Ps, what's this got to do with football?

Banna beach has a long history with Kerry GAA. I'd say it brings a tear to the eye of former Kerry players for a different reason!

Tis a cold old spot at times... I'd prefer South Kerry. Pony, West Cork isn't too bad either.

Remember the six one news. John o Keeffe refuses to take training on Banna strand because he feels that Paidi has shafted him in that famous "animals" article.

I remember as a young fella going to banna on sunday mornings to watch ogie, bomber, spillane and the rest training. It looked like pure torture! Reminds me of the cork footballers training on a beach under tompkins a few years ago. It was a cold sunday in october and there was fellas puking and dying everywhere after one of his infamous sessions. A american was passing and the conversation went as follows:
A: 'Are you guys some kind of football team?' Larry: 'That's right' A: 'Whens your next game?' Larry: 'June'
The american shook his head and walked away muttering 'And the Irish think we are f**ked up....'

It should be noted Seamus, that this type of training was and is pointless. Unless you're trying to kill the lads.

I can remember the hurling people of ardfert being concerned that football was taking hold in the parish and that it would do down the ancient game of hurling over time.
Hard to believe this happened in Kerry but its true.
it looks like the hurling people were right.

The Blackrock clinic should have set up a stall on Banna in the '80's such is the amount of hip and knee replacements that have come about as a result of fellas training all winter there!!
