All-Ireland champions Kerry flew out to Portugal on Wednesday for some warm weather training ahead of their championship campaign.
Pat O’Shea and his players will spend five days in Browns Training Camp in Villa Moura before returning home on Monday. Only a couple of players will miss out because of work commitments.
Kerry chairman Sean Walsh noted that warm weather training camps had proven to be hugely beneficial to the Kingdom when they won the 2004 and 2006 All-Ireland titles, and was hoping that history would repeat itself this year.
“It seemed to work so the management and the lads feel that it will help in team bonding and improving fitness levels in a professionally run facility,” he said.
“Training is going well and other than Kieran Donaghy and Bryan Sheehan, everyone else seems to be in good shape and are looking forward to putting in the hard work. We are going later this time around because of our January holiday but we believe that this week’s trip will be worth it.”
well lads what ye think. good idea?

"Buddy building" is as importanta s "body building".
If nothing else, it gives the players something back. I'm all for it as long as the county board can afford it.

Bonding..... Nothing like it. All the training in the world is not the same as a few days in each other space

Pro training camps are nothing new and if done correctly, can make a huge difference.
For GAA players, instead of training, eating the steak in the local hotel and driving home listening to Val Doonacan, they get to train together, begin forming tactics for the championship together,do the pre and rehab as a unit and make a harder sacrafice over a few days together. A well planned camp can be the ideal catalyst to drive the squad into the intense summer training they will have when they get home.
And trust me, alcohol is a million miles away until the last night.
