Leahy positive ahead of Ring campaign 27 April 2007
Kerry hurling manager Maurice Leahy reckons there’s a positive outlook in the camp ahead of the Kingdom’s 2007 Christy Ring Cup campaign.
Kerry appeared to be in crisis in the early stages of the league but the players turned things around and an encouraging turn-out was reported at a team meeting last weekend.
The purpose of that meeting was to lay down plans for the championship, which commences at home to Mayo on Saturday June 16.
According to the manager: “The players do genuinely look to be committed to the cause and I think the way we finished the league campaign on such a positive note has helped.
“Twenty-three lads showed up on Friday night; a couple are also in Dublin while a few more sent their apologies.
“We have the nucleus of 28 hurlers and we are also going to add three or four names to the panel. We will also lose three or four of the current panel.
“Only time will tell, but at the moment things are looking good. We will hopefully be able to give the Christy Ring Cup our best shot.”
