Longford were unlucky in 2006. Nearly beat Dublin and then got landed with kerry with Donaghy unveiled at 14.
I thought their forwards were very good in 2006 and was impressed again yesterday.
They will give Laois plenty of it and I wont be surprised if they win.

The Longford Westmeath match could be a cracker. I saw Longford against us last year and they have some fine forwards not least Brian Kavanagh. They gave our backs a torrid afternoon. On the other hand their backs left a lot to be desired. They were unlucky to be the first victims of Star's move to No 14. I liked their brand of football and they've a good manager at the helm. If they stay injury free (and I must admit I haven't heard ) I'd nearly fancy them to come through this test. Should be a close one. Ahem.....not a bad prediction if I don't mind saying so.

Good prediction animal. Fairly entertaining fair - mind you all I caught were the highlights and that seemed entertaining fair played at a lower standard.

God call..........if there was a transfer market a few Longford players would be on the move

Good stuff from The Slashers, building on last year. Dempsey's a bit of a tool, but obviously a good coach.
wicklow v louth - Louth (if they lose this then theyve really gone back on progress of last year. Would be a fairly big coup for Micko & his Gardeners)
kildare v meath - Draw
cavan v down replay - Cavan should have more room for improvement. If Down win, watch them........
fermanagh v tryone - big test of how prepared Tyrone are, I feel they really need Ulster. Fermanagh a woeful League, but well capable of stepping it up. A draw
galway v mayo - Mayo have the edge on them, but after the League final they may be a bit flat, and Galway will be gunning to bring them down a peg. Mayo wouldnt mind the qualifiers too much anyway I feel
liomerick v cork - Rumour has it Limerick are a threat again, I dont see it, but I dont think Cork will walk it either.
clare v waterford - Clare, but we wont learn much unless they win very easy

did anyone notice that pat mcenneny wasnt giving frees to forwards who were blantantly diving in front of the goal looking for easy frees. It was very refreshing to see.Satanta showed both games againthis evening.
looking at cavan and down draw and longford coming back to beat westmeath does anyone feel that teams should be seeded for the early rounds according to ability were more even games would result.

i dont see why league and provencial championships played between jan and end of april couldnt be used to seed eight groups of 4 to be played between may and end of august with the top 2 teams from each group going onto race for sam with bottom 2 in group going into tommy murphy cup.
top eight seeds could be eight provential finalists, next eight could be top performers in league games and so on down,it would make for a great champions league during the summer.

Heres a score line to shock those trying to promote the gaa in built up areas in modern ireland.
leinster minor football quarter final replay last night from o'moore park.
laois 2-12 Dublin 1-03
Dublin scored 1-01 from play, scored by the same player.
Theres a double header in croker on sunday, kildare v meath and louth v wicklow, its very hard to get excited by either game, the two televised games on rte look more attractive to watch, galway v mayo and fermanagh v tyrone.
Its hard to believe that gaa developement and promotion is working in its present format in the massively built up comuter belt that is the greater Dublin area.

Brian mcguigan is looking very doubtful for the championship, its reported he will be out for a least 2 months as his eye injury is more serious and requires surgery. Its hard to see him contributing to a high level this summer.
Its also highly likely that present insurance schemes will not adequately cover his loses from such amounts of time spent absent from the building site.
Such and recent circumstances would break the heart of a tiger and make toms humpries recent article in the times look very much like something taken from 1900's mythology and romantic fiction.
We can only wish Brian mcguigan a speedy recovery and hope he can get back to his high standards as quickly as possible on the field of play, thats if he will have the heart left to be bothered.

Speaking of injuries, must say we're all delighted to have Canty back. If anyone deserves and All Ireland it's him. I'm sure ye'll all agree with me on that one.
