Great to hear out here.....delighted for all in the Green.
Brings me back to the days when we started coming out of hibernation around 1992 / 1993, with Stephen Wallace, Gerry Lynch and a few others on the team. Those were the days. You had 11 buses pulling out together to head off to Limerick for the replay of the final - a curtin raiser to the club hurling final replay if I remember rightly.
The final that year was in Askeaton - sure you had fellas who never saw the game. As soon as a teacher went in the door of a pub to see who was in there, the lads were off out the back in the publicans house, and when the teacher left, the lads came back out again and keep pintin away.
No better preparation for the Leaving Cert!!

Yup, one and the same. Exactly the same player then as he is now.
The Green play St. Patricks of Navan this coming weekend. Apparently the mach 6 version of the Colm O'Rourke brand of footballing isn't as rounded as previous versions.
Tough game for The Green though.

Setanta sports showed a game in leinster recently between St Patricks and Newbridge. Newbridge led all through but St Pats had a "Donaghy" at full forward who is actually Colm O Rourkes nephew. He eventually swung the game for St pats.
Where is that game on? twould be a grand curtain raiser to the Club final replay

FRONT | NEWS | SPORT | AREA NOTES | OTHER NEWS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GAA: Tralee CBS dump the Sem
Tralee CBS …0-9, St Brendan's, Killarney …1-4
TRALEE CBS advanced to the semi-finals of this season's Corn Uí Mhuire after a bloodless victory over a very disappointing St Brendan's College Killarney outfit in this all-Kerry quarter final clash, played in near ideal conditions in the Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney.
This game had none of the intensity associated with past clashes between these two famed Kerry nurseries, with Tralee being the stronger side, though they failed to press home their advantage on the scoreboard.
St Brendans were a major disappointment though many of the side are young enough again or next year. However some of their more established performers never really got going and the fact that they were so close at the finish was more due tothe failure of Tralee's attack to press home their advantage, than any improvement from the Sem.
Tralee are a much improved side but they need to step up a gear if they are to be serious contenders later on, though they are fortunate to be in the weaker looking side of the draw where they will play either Douglas or St Augustines in the semi-final.
Tralee wasted too many scoring chances but there is no doubt that they are a side on the up. "The Green" defence was very solid with David Culloty having a fine game at full back, keeping St Brendan's dangerman Michael O'Grady scoreless.
Corner backs Padraig O'Sullivan and Gordon Kerins were tenacious throughout and they cleared their lines time after time. Brian Moran was rock solid at centre back and it looks to be his best position. He did spend some time at midfield where he was also effective and is a superb distributor of the ball.
Daniel Doyle and Kevin O'Shea were effective wing backs with Doyle joining his attack at every opportunity.
However it is up front that Tralee mentors will worry about as they failed to convert good possession into scores, kicking a total of eight wides, five in the second half.
James Sugrue kicked two good points though he had problems lifting the ball of the ground in the first half. Chris O'Sullivan looks to be suited to the corner while Joey O'Connor is normally a wing back though he played well. Robert Fitzgerald finished well but both Shane O'Sullivan and Eoghan Liston had quiet games.
Overall, Tralee have scope for improvement in their attack and, if they do, then who knows what they can achieve.
They will be happy to have beaten St Brendans but will be conscious of the fact that the losers were poor on the day and were lucky that Liam O'Connell, Kieran Lynch and Luke Quinn, a pontential Kerry minor, saved them from a drubbing.
Tralee CBS were the better side in the first half with some good passing moves as St Brendans ailed fire early on. Tralee dominated around the middle where Shane Guthrie and Shane McMahon held sway despite the heroics of the Sem's Luke Quinn.
Tralee, with their defence on top, were guilty of some basic handling errors up front which cost them vital scores but they led 0-3 to 0-0 at the end of the first quarter with wing forward Joey O'Connor getting the lot, including two frees.
Brian Moran, son of Kerry great Ogie, was impeccable at centre back as St Brendans just could not get going.
However St Brendans came storming into the game before half time as Tralee lost their way and two points from their only forward of note, Mike O'Donoghue, gave the Sem hope.
Then St Brendans struck for a vital goal in the 25th minute that resurrected their challenge and it came after a Tralee forward took down Sem captain Kieran Lynch out near the side line.
He slipped the ball quickly to James O'Sullivan, then after Jason Arthur and Mike O'Donoghue combined, the ball was fed to the inrushing midfielder Luke Quinn, who took it in his stride and rifled an unstoppable shot to the roof of the Tralee net.
Levelled
This levelled the tie at 1-2 to 0-5 but Shane O'Sullivan gave Tralee a slender one point advantage at half time 0-6 to 1-2 and the game was in the balance.
St Brendans needed a good start to the second half and two early second half wides did not help their cause as they applied good pressure. Tralee, thanks to some inspired play from David Culloty, Gordon Kerins and Brian Moran, managed to keep a grip on proceedings in a game that failed to ignite as St Brendans flat-tered to deceive.
A nice pass by Shane Guthrie soccer style to team mate James Sugrue, saw the latter whip over a fine point for Tralee CBS in the 49th minute and his side never looked back.
However both sides were guilty of squander mania, and St Brendans failed to register a single score in twenty two minutes, as they kicked three bad wides.
Kieran Lynch converted a close free in the 53rd minute and sent over a 45 a minute later to give St Brendans hope as the Tralee led 0-9 to 1-4.
Tralee had their points from Robert Fitzgerald in the 46th and 47th minutes, the latter being a well struck free.
Tralee were the better side by far but were slow to put their opponents away and it took corner back Gordon Kerins, who produced a superb catch to deny St Brendans in dying minutes of this sub-standard affair, to ensure victory.
Scorers: Tralee CBS: J. O'Connor 0-3, ( 0-2frees), R. Fitzgerald 0-2 (0-1 free), J. Sugrue 0-2, S. O'Sullivan and S. McMahon 0-1 each.

GAA: Sem's comeback just fails By: Murt Murphy
Munster Colleges Senior Football Final Tralee CBS 0-13 St Brendan’s College, Killarney 2-6
THE intense rivalry between Tralee CBS and St Brendan’s College, Killarney resurfaced under artic like conditions in this hard fought Munster Colleges Corn Ui Mhuiri senior football decider played at Austin Stack Park, Tralee on Bank Holiday Monday, with Tralee’s battling qualities wining the day.
It was a game that Tralee dominated for long periods due to the midfield dominance of Stephen Browne and Barry Shanahan but they failed to put the Sem away.
The Killarney side fought back in the final 10 minutes and after Jamie Dolan had sent David Brosnan through for a goal, the deficit was reduced to a mere point with two minutes plus injury time remaining.
It was now Tralee’s turn to enjoy lady luck as the Killarney school had two chances of leveling but David O’Leary and Rauiri Mangan drove wide and then in final minute, after Cian Tobin was fouled wide right, 35 metres out, James O’Donoghue failed to find the target.
It was a frantic nerve racking finish but the Sem just could not nail the equaliser and a tough Tralee rearguard action led by captain Bryan Costello, just held on as Tralee celebrated their first Munster final win since 2000.
Tralee CBS played with the bitterly cold and strong wind into the Horan end of the ground in the opening half, and made an explosive start.
Indiscipline too was to cost the Sem as they tried manfully to hold the Tralee CBS onslaught as they pressed forward with the strong wind behind them.
It was all Tralee for the opening 10 minutes as they did not allow Killarney any incursion into their own half.
Tralee had the opening point from Alan O’Donoghue within 20 seconds of the throw in and it was all Tralee as they added five points without reply, three from the mercurial Benny Dillon from Churchill and an Alan O’Donoghue free.
The best point was a Barry Shanahan side line ball from under the stand that left Tralee leading 0-6 to0-0 after ten minutes.
The Sem needed a score or even an attack to lift the siege and it happened in the 11th minute when James O’Donoghue, in typical fashion, raced through from the middle of the field and cutting through the Tralee defence, he parted to the unmarked Rauiri Mangan who drilled an unstoppable shot low past Kevin O’Shea and suddenly the complexion of the game changed.
O’Donoghue and Tobin now cut loose as Kevin Breen began to win more ball at midfield and when O’Donoghue fed Tobin, he scored a fine point to reduce the gap to just two points.
Tralee were clearly rattled as they needed a good lead at the interval and Paul Culloty increased their lead to three with a fine point two bad wides did not help their cause.
However with Shanahan and Browne winning midfield and their half backs and half forwards winning the breaks, Tralee should have scored more with the wind but Packie O’Connor, Bryan Russell and Jonathon Lyne worked very hard.
Dillon scored his fourth point from play as Bryan Kelly saved brilliantly from O’Callaghan while at the other end Mangan receiving from Doolan, scored thepiint of the half as Tralee retired 0-8 to1-2 in front but it appeared that it was advantage Killarney.
The game was decided in the opeing ten minutes of the second half when Tralee CBS resumed a fired up side and attacked continually against the wind as Killarney could only manage a single Jamie Doolan free.
Tralee took over at midfield and second half sub Barry John Keane took over.
Dillon scored his fifth point from play before Keane rattled off three in quick succession and when his cousin Barry John Walsh added another, it looked game over as Tralee led 0-13 to 1-2 after 42 minutes.
Then after O’Donoghue had pointed a free for Killarney after a leg block on Mangan, came possibly the turning point of the game.
It came in the 47th minute when O’Donoghue was pulled down for a penalty and a goal would have just left three points between the sides and anything could have happened.
Up stepped Rauiri Mangan but he got under the spot kick and it sailed over the bar.
Tralee were not scoring themselves and Kelly made two fine saves to deny them but the simple fact was that the dangerous Killarney inside line was living on scraps and the ball was not coming into them enough.
O’Donoghue missed a free but then a fine Tobin point in the 56th minute was followed by a Brosnan goal created by the genius of Doolan. It was no back to wall stuff for Tralee as Killarney kicked away three chances of the equaliser but in truth, Tralee CBS deserved the Cup, based on what went on for the previous 35minutes but could well have lost it in that tremendous Sem comeback that just failed.
