not being captain didnt stop seamus from growing like the michelin man in '06.
killkenny, cork, tipp and kerry share about 134 senior all-irelands approx between them, all traditionalists in the game and the club champions nominate the county captain, enough said,i dont understand all the hullibaloo really.
i dont find too much disastrous about kerrys history over the last 100 years in fairness.

The football is the same in Cork, and we're no Celtic. ;)If you remember in 2005 Seán Levis was the captain picked by Carbery and come championship he was dropped and Sexton became the captain, but he was Carbery anyway. (Divisional side as well) So is there anyone in South Kerry you'd be happy with?? Change isn't always a good thing. If for example you picked a fella outside of South Kerry, isn't that a bit insulting to those lads who worked there butts off to win the championship? Surely one of them deserved the reward and credit by becoming captain? On a side note, you're right about the hurling championship. It became totally obvious to me when I studied the odds for the league. Seriously, for teams in the same division there is some differences in standard.

how much more public is the football, its unlikely a team outside kerry, tyrone, armagh, dublin, cork, mayo will win it.
cork, killkenny, tipp, galway, waterford can win the hurling, offally, clare, limerick and wexford are always dangerous.

Kerrygold, I do see your point, but the difference between the best and worst teams isn't as great.

Ye better not compete for a few years so to give the rest of us a chance… So should the GAA be investing more time and money into the weaker counties to develop there game, facilities and structures within the counties. Say with Rosscommon beating ye last year in the minor, do you think that in a few years they could be up with the top teams? Louth seem to be doing well enough to in the league this year.

I was probably Declans stoutest defender during 2006...... if ye wish to recall......... Mickmack, I can hardly remember last week not to mind last year. :-[I just meant about making an issue out of the captain situation. It's the same in Cork and I know people have been questioning it too with regards to the hurlers. The lads like Dara and co will make there presents felt on the pitch without being captain. Don't think it bothers them in the slightest cos I'm sure what's important is that ye win at the end of the day. Give the lad a chance! Owenabue........ in the 2006 hurling final........kilkenny the crafty hoors actually targeted your corner back who was also the captain......they saw him as the weak link....... the captain gets substituted..........his marker gets man of the match......kilkenny win......... would he have been picked if he wasnt captain .........wayne sherlock available. food for thought Compare that with sean og in 2005.......... inspirational leader

Final work from me on this..............
In the mid 90s Maurice fitzgerald should have been captain. The SAM in 1997 should have spent the winter in caherciveen. Instead we had a fiasco of the captain being dropped!!
Maurice carried the torch from 1987 when things were rotten.........
He lead us out of the wilderness and the management should have had the power to make him captain.
Now there kerrygold......... no bias against south kerry by me......... i just think that the current arrangement should be changed

we will have to agree to disagree on this one mickmack,i'm happy out with the way the kerry captain is picked because 9 out ot 10 teams it works ok.
in mike hassets case he got injured during the year and lost his place,if both had being allowed to accept the cup to-gether and he got his medal everything would have been ok.
just a thought for you to mull over.
iF maurice fitz has been five or six years younger or five or six years older kerry might have won the five in a row.

There was a lot of tired players about and maybe they thought they had the devine right to win the three in a row. Kilkenny wanted it more so that's why they won. But yes I would agree with you about Seán Óg being inspirational.

Rashers, when I tried to reply earlier the site crashed. (or it could be me, tis one of those days) Anyway, I was just wondering, are you living under a stone with the Copper suggestion or is it your attempt at humour?!
