Does anyone know how things will work out this year with the new format for the quarterfinals.
If Kerry beat Cork in Munster and Cork make it to the quarterfinals, are Kerry and Cork precluded from meeting before the final even if Cork beat the Leinster Champs in the quarterfinals?
In 2007...... the rota is Munster v Leinster in the semi...

isn't there an open draw at quarter final stage with munster v leinster meeting in the semi's,kerry could get anyone in the quarters if they beat cork, after having had to wait a month or five weeks after the munster final, such as tyrone, armagh, dublin, mayo depending on how the provences go.That could be tricky enough. Might be wothwhile manufacturing a crisis in the camp again.
Those anyone think its time for a championship league type format for the championship either run off in two months or over a longer period with group stages.I'm sure financial considerations would play a big part. Interest has dropped at earlier stage games because of the open draw,it not relevant now who wins or doesnt win the provences unless a new team comes through such as clare '92,westmeath '04 etc. There was very little interest in the munster football championship last summer with very small crowds,20 odd thousand for the munster finals, down from the mid 40's a decade earlier. the leinster hurling championship is almost a non event. Does it really matter now who wins the munster, connacht football championships or the leinster hurling championship, theres no connacht hurling championship and the ulster hurling champs were not in the all-ireland championship last summer. Things are starting to look out dated with the arival of the quailifiers.

I think there has to be a champion's league-like format, with a group stage (seeded), followed by open draw knock-outs. The Provincial championships were always very wrongly unbalanced as regards a way of producing Semi-finalists/quarter finalists, and should now be put on their own as seperate competitions

Something like play the league in january and february instead of the of the mcgrath, mckenna,o byrne and FBD leagues.
play the provincial championships in march and april as seperate competitions with the league semi's and final.
leagues and provincial competitions finished by the end of april.
championship proper run in champions league type format of eight groups of four seeded by performance in league and provincial championships thus making all competitions competitive, important and relevant thus retaining league and provincial championships.
ie,8 provencial finalists heading the eight groups as first seeds, the eight best performing league performers as second seeds,eg.league winners, finalists, semi finalists and next four in order of merit decided on league points and scoring averages. Third and 4th seeds decided accordingly from league performance.
First and second from group stage into last 16 paired by open draw or seeded.
Third and 4th from group stage into tommy murphy cup paired by open draw or seeded.
Surely it should result in a fair championship that could be rapped by early august thus freeing up quality time for the club championships to be played allowing proper structure in the local club championships, with the club player in mind.
benifits,
early concluesion to championships and league, each county getting at least 4 championship games plus the provincial games. quality time created for the club footballer. intercounty season from january to early august only.
would it not be better to scrap the o byrne, mckenna, mcgrath,FBD cups instead of scrapipng the u21 competion, whats the point in having college teams playing in these 4 competitions against county teams to the detriment of the u21 competition when they have the various college compititions to play in.
would a seven or eight month season also help county boards reduce the huge running costs of teams over a longer season as presently stands.
