The Marys decided not to go senior as far as I can remember. Apart from that no Sth Kerry club team has exelled, Dromid had their bit of success and got to div 1 which was a massive achievement for them, they also won their first Sth Kerry championship. However the glory days are gone for them with injuries, retirements and lads gone abroad. For the rest of the teams, Renard were unlucky to lose the junior final last year and who knows, they might have been where Duagh are now. As for the rest of the teams, none would be even close to competing seperately in the senior championship. Im afraid the current format is here to stay. On saying that I cant see them winning another one this year.

I think your right about the Marys. Waterville are not a bad team, Portmagee won the championship last year but were relagated to Div 3 last week Dromid are about the pick of the teams down there, when they get their act together

south kerry developed a brillant nursery around the school in caherciveen when the schools joined up.They also have good people involved, like jack o connor who has done massive work their with dromid and the tech in winning at least one schools all-irelands and maybe two in the vocational schools competition and latter going on to win three munster colleges in a row.
Its no coincedence that players like declan, bryan, ronan o connor, ronan hussey, killian young, brian hickey, paddy curran etc have come through the schools system.
its a blue print that we should be encouraging in every district in kerry to try and implement around a school in a particular area instead of knocking what it has achieved in south kerry.

What the Kerry County Championship needs if anything is more divisional sides not less. This would raise standards even higher and increase competitiveness. If South Kerry is raising the bar then so be it. I have no doubt that Dr Crokes with the talent they have and the playing population they have to pick from, will get there. Let’s remember they have run South Kerry pretty close on occasions. The concern for Kerry football should be why our big urban areas are not doing better, particularly in Tralee. Once the standards are good that is the main thing. Moreover, with three Kerry clubs involved in All-Ireland finals things overall are looking bright. Not allowing South Kerry compete together is only going lower standards not make them better and that would not be good for Kerry football overall.

My proposal would seldom be used. East kerry won 3 and no more. AllI right is saying that south kerry have cleaned up at under age level in recent years? Do we want a situation where the county championship becomes a procession............. Under my proposal....... for the two years that this would apply the south kerry players would play for their clubs in whatever championship they are in. In year 3 they can regoup and pick up 3 more county titles in a row. Meanwhile Crokes or An Gaeltacht might win the championship and Gooch ot Tomas o shea gets a shot at the captaincy. Ardfert want to give it a go next year and more luck to them...... If it's what's best for Kerry, then it's for all the players to be playing a high standard of football, and that goes for the South Kerry lads. If those players weren't allowed to play senior football for two years, there football would suffer, and the county team because of it. I know in Cork a lot of our best players play for intermediate or Junior teams so the only chance they get to play Senior football is with their divisions. This include our two all stars!

Mick, move it in with Beara... twould bring the standard of football up in Cork as well then and we could try and give ye a proper match twice in the one year. Shur isn't some of Kerry in Beara anyway. Problem solved.
