Personally I think it is disgraceful that teams in division 3 are allowed to play senior county championship. If a team drops in to division 3 they should immediately be relegated from senior status. Any division one team that wants to go on their own should be allowed.
The biggest problem with the senior championship is its bias towards divisional teams. They are given every advantage, why should they be kept apart from clubs in the early rounds. Simple cause the powers that be know well that kerry will do well ( always get to at least semi final) and by the time they have to meet a club it is towards the end of the summer and they are like clubs themselves all that they have trained together.
Also the situation where south kerry are made of 9!!!!!! clubs is an absolute disgrace may too many altogether. some of these clubs are in division 1 or 2. Its a farce!

St Marys, Sneem, Waterville, Dromid, St Michaels Foilmore are all in division 2. OK none in division 1 at the moment but all these teams have been there recently. When you compare 9!!!!! of these higher division teams playing together to the likes of the legion who play on their own in the championship and are near the bottome of division 3 it puts things in to prospective.
Sure why don't they join up with Kenmare district while they are at it!

all bar foilmore are struggling in div.2.Like all other teams that come and go you will find sooner rather than later this south kerry team will wind up too.Take a look back over their history, they have won 6 or 7 championships, thats hardly a record to suggest that south kerry are distroying club football in kerry.
if you look under the cover further you will see the massive work done at under level in the area especially by jack o connor in the schools system. This is a system other areas in kerry should be trying to emmulate and not criticise.
south kerry have had only one regular senior player on the kerry team over the last 3 years, hardly a hanging offence,o and should i forget the total footballing genius of even an ageing maurice fitzgerald. How many players do you know that can literally only play three or four games a year, tog out for the months of september and october and be very influencial at the ages of 35,36,37?,i'd suggest no other.

Im not criticising the work being done at underage level or saying they are destroying kerry club football. I just think 9 clubs together is way too much regardless of whether they have won 1 county or 100 counties. Its not fair on the clubs who have a limited pool of players. 1 against 9 is'nt fair in anyones language!

Its not fair on the clubs who have a limited pool of players. 1 against 9 is'nt fair in anyones language! its amazing this topic didnt rear its head between the mid 50's and early 80's nor between the mid 80's and mid 00's till now. Maybe the problem is that the big town clubs are not providing the top quaility club players to win co. championships. tralee has a population somewhere between 20 to 30 thousand people, with 3 main clubs, thats a pick of 7 to 10 thousnad people per club.Killarney has 12000 thousand people for 2 clubs, thats 6000 people per club. youll find that south kerry has a far smaller catchment area of 4500 people, thats far smaller than any of the main big club teams in tralee and killarney. the district system has served kerry well you mighten have seen players like micko connell, micko dywer, john egan, jacko shea,,maurice fitgerald and declan osullivan without it,not to mention players like paidi ose from other district teams, all from tiny hamletts of people.

thats the height of it,then take into account all the young ones that are away working or in a college.Theres lads driving down from dublin, limerick and cork mid week to train with south kerry during peak championship season, that can only last for a while, give them credit and enjoy their football while their going well, personally i'm delighted that the brillant maurice fitz got to win three championships in the extreme twilight of his brillant career.i'd say we will hardly see him out this year playing for south kerry,he took a huge physical hit last year.
