Sean Potts carries an interesting article in todays indo on conor mortimor.
its covers areas like what it takes to compete at the highest level in the game and adjustment in life style and conditions needed.
It out lines conor leaving the family business in mayo to become a full time student in dcu studing sports science to basically become a full time gaa player where he can train a few times a day most days of the week.Theres quotes like,"Only college life can facilitate this existance with scholarship and sponcership deals uderpinning the arrangement","As a full time student in DCU,mortimor is one of the growing band of intercounty players who choose the path of least resistance to full time training".
its quite clear from the article that mortimor made life changing decisions, to pursue the holy grail of attaining that coveted all-ireland medal, by becoming a full time player fuelled by an all comsuming compelling passion to win sam.If you speak to conor ten years after he hands up his boots you will find it will be irrelevant whether he wins sam or not.
its an interesting read and if someone could post it up here it would be appreciated as it gives an insight into what it takes to play at the highest level. Its easy to see why lads like mike mccarty and eamonn fitzmaurice walked away from the game at their peak.
also take a look at the professions of the kerry players over the last ten years,a lot of them are teachers, gaurds and students existances due to time off in where you can attempt to participate in gaelic football at the highest level.
training, rest and recovery are the big problems for players when careers and familys ties become problematic as lads hit their late 20's and early 30's.

Kerrygold, I just checked the website and it doesn't seem to be there. Also, Dara Ó Cinnéide has a very good piece on Cork in todays Examiner, which also isn't on the net.
