Dublin have won 5 sams in 40 years. Nuff said. Dublin must the only sports team in the universe where playing in front of a partisan home crowd is a handicap. Refs usually give them the break........... remember Tyrones equaliser in 1995 that was disallowed. Look at what Ciaran Whelan has got away with in the past few years. The refs havent the balls to send him off. I find it sad now to hear that Dublin look on Croker as handicap. How the mighty have fallen. What would Keith Barr and Eamon Heary and Brian Mullins say that that . I'm not convinced that they would be any better playing outside of dublin if you think of that display against longford last year down in longford. Oh dear, you've really lapsed from good discussion into the usual lazy cliches & disengenuous comments. Tyrone's equaliser? What's that got to do with anything in this discussion? Are there different rules in Kerry now as well as Ulster? Is touching the ball on the ground not a foul? Was Jacko Shea picking up the ball off the ground in the small square in 85 not a foul? Referees-Seamus Aldridge? Whelo? Tomas O'Shea? But that's ok, he's a pure footballer from Kerry. Whelo has been sent off, check your facts. The only reason he gets picked on is because he's so good. By the way, I never brought any of this childish stuff up, it's all in your sandbox. As for Croker, that's most cute of you - year in year out we have to listen to cute hoors like yourself saying, "we're really up against it, Croker is such an advantage to Dublin". Funny that, seeing as Kerry play better there than anywhere else. Meath too. Most top teams feel very at home there, and those that can luxuriate in the advantage of playing the "poor mouth underdog" do so to great effect. So we are not allowed give our side of the story? Truth is that any top team should play well in any ground, once they have the experience & a result or two behind them. Nobody can argue that no team other than Dublin have to face the suffocating hype of the non-Dublin-dominated media (where are nearly all the editors and journalists and share-holders from??) nor the propoganda that we are somehow almost always "favourites" despite recent form. Kerry havent done so well when made favourites against other top teams in big games, they usually manage to manufacture a "crisis" to get themselves psyched up. As for Longford, but for a couple of very soft goals, Kerry didnt exactly do much better against them. Home draw against Longford, crazy rules to allow that against a designated county, just because they had the cheek to reach that stage

it doesn't particularly bother me when i sit on the stone wall over looking the garden taking in a south kerry mid summers sunset setting over the blaskets at the end of the lenght of dingle bay smoking a hamlett and drinking a can of bulmers after a day in the mountains gathering sheep that kerry never beat Down in the championship, who cares. Similarly,so what if we havent beaten tyrone in the 'oos,we beat them in'86 for the three in a row, maybe that was more important,i certainly wouldnt swop that victory, that was another magic day in croker. Fair play to Down,Armagh and Tyrone, they beat us in All-ireland finals,so what,it was there days and more power to them and fair fcuks to them. They claimed what the footballing gods decided would be their right,no one can exercise control over that, their destiny. Someone mentioned that Armagh were unlucky in'00,the only bad luck that Armagh had in 2000 was that they did not factor in the total footballing genuis of kerrys best footballer of the last 30 years, the brillant Maurice fitgerald. Bigmac spoke in another thread about the fanstastic feeling when the final whistle blows and you are all-ireland champions for the year, thats the only currency in gaelic football, the only feeling that counts,it wont matter a toss deep down if ireland beat england in croker to-morrow,so what, its all about the sam maguire cup,all gaa's peoples god.It doesnt matter who you beat, who you dont beat, whither you came in the front down, the back door or down the chimley. Its the feeling at the very pit of stomach, the one that gets better every time. As long as kerry keep averaging 2 to 3 all-ireland wins every decade it doent matter who might beat us in another 1 or 2,so what, its their day in the sun and a chance for other people to experience that feeling. What matters most now is whether the players on the kerry team deep down want to beat this present tyrone team, does it mean every thing to them,do they really want it.Thats what will have a major bearing on where sam rests in '07,not argueing who beat who and who didnt beat who.So what, big tickle. The most of them have made themselves available for selection in the early league games, the ones that have felt maybe mentally tired have taken a break.Something tells me that once they get the smell of the first cut of grass this summer tyrone will cross they minds,it would be foolish though to take one's mind of the Armagh ball hoping in the corner or indeed, cork, dublin and mayo.A great summer of football becons, will the hunger be there and the desire, more importantly will tyrone and armagh have the fire in the bellies also?. Anyway in my minds imaginary eye the sun is nearly set over the blaskets now,the sky is a deep deep red touching down over ventry and dingle harbours, the sea is a brillant blue, flat as a huge sheet of glass spread between the two great penninsula's.Another hamlett and a can of bulmers from the iced ice bucket, its dead calm, not a puff of wind, silent, the sea gently carressing the rocks below. The bastarts of midgets starting to emerge from the heathers now and iritate, light the hamlett and keep them at bay, kerry never beat Down in championship football, who cares, big swing of the john tomas,is that claudia walking up the lane toward the house, happiness is a cigar called hamlett. Very nice piece, but Hamlet cigar? More like a few pints & the sea air opening your mind & your locacious valves! Be honest now, whilst lads are still out there kicking ball at this level, you wont settle til you do or dont get another shot at Tyrone. Neither will I til the Dubs do, and at Mayo, and Armagh, and of course Kerry. I want to beat them all in the next couple of years. As a Dub, I can tell it like it is. That's why you dont see many waffling presenters/analysers from Dublin on the tv, we dont know blather & blarney, we blast all that away. Cant wait to see how it pans out, I'll tell it as I see it, but it wont ever be simplistic!

Apart from the final whistle blowing v mayo, dareen o sullivans goal gave me the biggest buzz last summer because (a) i knew we had beaten armagh in that particular game the team that beat us in'02 and (b)from that moment on i knew kerry would win that years championship. I'm not sure sure tyrone can lay claim to team of this decade or era yet.The critical score reads 3 senior all-irelands to two senior all-irelands in kerry favour, surely thats the the only currency with which thay can be judged. theres still 3 championships left in this decade,if kerry win one more surely the title is theirs, however i agree if tyrone beat kerry again this decade and win another sam my asumption is up for discussion. I feel in my bones though that kerry will beat tyrone in this championship.

Good points KG, but who knows what might have happened if Kerry had been put under pressure in the final. It could & should have happened, and it was that scenario that they had to test themselves in, assuming they are not 15 points better than the rest of the country. Believe me, even in your wildest dreams, theyre not. So maybe it comes down to this, Kerry fans, football people, they surely want most of all to see their team beat Tyrone (or at 2nd best any top team), in a tight game, in a Semi or Final. Last year was close to it against Armagh in the Quarter Final (a superb game & performance I might add), but lack of Tyrone having been in contention, and Mayo being so pathetic in the final, has no doubt taken the edge off it. The thing about the gaps between games for Province champs before the quarters is also significant in recent years, it was certainly very significant for us against Mayo, who had that replay & generally tougher games on the way. I admit that more games can sometimes work against a team - too many replays & tough games & injuries. Of one thing I will not doubt, Tyrone's achievement in 2005 was remarkable, as was Kerry's in 2000. This year I'd like to see the winners have to beat 2 of the top 5 or 6 teams in the country on the way to winning Sam, (assuming none of them dont show up for the final like Mayo), and have to play at least 10 games, that would be a clear sign of which is the best team in the country ;D

i accept your points and know what your saying. However if every ten years,ie every decade you sit down and draw up a league table of games and titles won like the premership table in england at the end of a season it wont lie.It will give you a clear indication of who was the best and most consistant team over the dacade, era. In the oo's kerry to date have contested 5 out of 7 all-ireland finals, winning 3 of them and losing 2 by one kick of a ball.6 all-irelands played,3 won and one drawn when you take into account the replay in 00. The above is pretty comprehensive when you factor in that armagh and tyrone have competed at this time, era also and brought the game to a new level winning three titles between them beating kerry in two. You can look at the defeats suffered by kerry in '02 and '05 and speculate and nit pick at them looking for excuses. In '02 you can say that kerry never reappeared in the second half, for what ever reason and for what ever went on the the dressing room at half time. You can claim that m.fitz and tadgh sat in the stand.Rembering kerry were beaten by point,a point they were chasing for the last 10 or 15 minutes. All the above is disrespectful to armagh who siezed the day. in '05 you can claim that kerry made a mistake trying to emulate tyrones style of play and not trusting their own natural style of play.kerry played with one functioning forward that day,who was injured for about 20 minutes of that games with galvin and declan spending the game defending in the back.Dispite tyrone playing at a massively high tempo that day and for me kerry slightly a notch below par their was still only one kick of the ball in the game. You can also analyse the refereeing decision that went against kerry on the gooch that resulted in the goal at the other end with players caught out of position.Without opening a can of worms you can take a look at the special relationship between jack and declan and look how that might have weakened kerry hand. kerrys stats are pretty inpressive for the 00's to date, when you throw in 2 national leagues also,ie two of the three all-ireland being doubles,'04 and '06 the picture is pretty comprehensive in their favour as the best team to date in this decade or era. If either tyrone or armagh had achieved them they would be the talk of the place as even being better than kerrys golden era team because modern time footbal is more competive now. kerry cant help or choose who they met in a final, all they can do is attempt to beat them, its not their problen if a team collaspes in front of them in a final, remembering the team that got to the final is the second best team in the country that season have beaten all others. To say other wise is disrespectfull to others. Four all-irelands,3 being doubles, in 10 seasons is huge,3 all-ireland victories plus one draw and being second best twice in seven seasons is massive considering two were doubles and at a time when tyrone and armagh were at their rampant best bringing the game to a new level. For me over the last 31 years on the road following kerry what has always stood out most in my mind is kerrys ability to come back from defeat and be better and win another one when written off.I think of '75,78,84,97 and'04 in particular. kerry beat armagh last season and in '00,they will beat tyrone too this season if they meet each other, hopefully that will be in the final.

I'd agree with that. One question though - How have Tyrone & Arnagh brought the game to a new level? New level from what? You can look at the defeats suffered by kerry in '02 and '05 and speculate and nit pick at them looking for excuses. In '02 you can say that kerry never reappeared in the second half, for what ever reason and for what ever went on the the dressing room at half time. You can claim that m.fitz and tadgh sat in the stand.Rembering kerry were beaten by point,a point they were chasing for the last 10 or 15 minutes. All the above is disrespectful to armagh who siezed the day. You're right again, it would be disrespectful. You're wrong that you could devalue the result, Armagh won, albeit it by the narrowest margin, but were the better team overall & had more than earned it. in '05 you can claim that kerry made a mistake trying to emulate tyrones style of play and not trusting their own natural style of play.kerry played with one functioning forward that day,who was injured for about 20 minutes of that games with galvin and declan spending the game defending in the back.Dispite tyrone playing at a massively high tempo that day and for me kerry slightly a notch below par their was still only one kick of the ball in the game. Now rashers........culchie is a derogatory term......... given the inspiration of croker last saturday.....maybe you should cease to use it. Jackeen would be a similar derogatory term for dublin people and it is not used here on this forum. Jackeen came from the practice of Dublin people waving union jack flags when the king of england visited the second city of the empire.

In todays paper, the dublin player Paul Casey denies that there is trouble in the dublin camp.
In other words there is trouble in the camp..........

I seriously hope there IS trouble in the camp - there bloody well ought to be! Anyway, feckin culchie-controlled media Mick, I've no problem with Jackeen, never had. "The Jacks are back alright, and the way they are playing right now, the Galway backs are jacked!" The word has been used on here, but we have to be able to laugh at ourselves........ Culchie & Jacks are terms of affection (platonic of course )

Rashers... did u see the Charlie Redmond Laoghra Gael.......... good enough. I was amazed to see Finbar McConnelll and Dooher playing for Tyrone way back then. Also...... in 1994... the Hogan Stand was completed....... 13 years ago ...... and the celtic tiger wasnt spoken of........
Charlie is too hard on himself for missing the penalties. At least he had the balls to take them. Personally....... i blame the ref...... for awarding them!!

;D Yeah, look at all the penos we got in big games in that era - yet when we had the players to take it.........we couldnt buy one! I liked Charlie, but we need someone with his conviction right now - Keaney needs to step up to it from frees, or bring in Madser Vaughan
