Winning Sam via the qualifiers just doesnt quite hit the spot I'll bet that Kerry will be desperate to win back Munster this year..... Winning Sam on the back of a 3-timer in any team's province would be a true historical achievement of renown

I'm sure Kerry would value their 673 Munster titles alot more if they had to play in a province where there is real competition

i wasnt trying to denigrate Armaghs record in UlSTER. I just feel that the chmpionship is skewed against the provincial winners......... 4 weeks of inactivity till the quarter finals and they they come up against a team firing on all cylinders having had a string of games in the qualifiers. Surely their (armaghs) experience in the past 3 years proves this.

Big Joe would gladly fire all those ulster medals around the dressingroom if it meant winning sam again Still, hoppin ball aside, the Provincial Champos ARE indeed lopsided, so for Armagh to have done so well there and not won another Sam is a sign of that inequity. I've said for years, along with your own Con Houlihan, that the League is the best competition. The qualifiers are also proof that the best sides come to the top. Anyhoo, I cant see Tyrone not winning Ulster this year, last year was down to their injuries. Donegal should be close, so Armagh will get their chance to build steadily, depending on the kind of draw they might get. Luck comes into it, if you get beat early and draw Cork, Mayo, Fermanagh, Derry, Laois or Dublin in the qualies Does nayone think Kerry will go all-out for Munster this year? I do, especially as they probably wont go for the League

i have long since said the i thought the provincials were redundant with the back door allowing teams to lose a game and still be in the race for sam except for the provincial winners who are put out the first time they slip up.now dont get me wrong i'm a fan of the backdoor but would rather see it as a secondary competition

Surely their (armaghs) experience in the past 3 years proves this. exactly I agree, but my point is that whatever happens, contrary to the "fair day glory-hunting big occasion" fans, history and those who really know their Gah will remember that team for their achievements over 10 years. Dont let yourself be run down. I would never allow that the Dubs team of the late 80s to mid 90s was less than a great team - not all-time great, but still..............the lack of just another Sam is not the point, it's a fallacy, a superficial hankering. What really matters in sport? Yes, success, but we all agree that playing to a high standard over a long period must mark out a team/individual players (Browne, Forde, Owens, O'Brien, Melia, White, Dessie Dolan, Adrain Sweeney and others) They won one Sam, and a National League it's more than many other teams and players have had the privilege to do. They should give everything to win another National Trophy, but it's the performances, this year and every year, that will be also remembered. Donegal won one Sam, reached a League final, and some of that team won U-21 All-I medals. Fantastic and all as those achievements were, they certainly wont be remembered as great as good as this Armagh team - why is that? deal......or no deal?

i think ur sort of missing the point, there is no doubt that the currant armagh team have a lot to be proud of and i for 1 am proud of them but its not fallacy to wish to reach the pinnacle of ur sport and like it or not winning the all ireland is the pinnacle.teams r judged on how many they've won rightly or wrongly and u have to admit to a modicum of jealously when u see how many the kingdom have won.jk cursed himself when he said good teams win 1 but great teams win 2 and i remember only to well the feeling in the upper tier of the hogan when the ref blew the finla whistle in 02 and would like to have that same rush of emotion and pride that came over me that day as my county were crowned kingpins of gaelic football for 1 year. the biggest misnomer in sport is that its not the winning its the taking part, absolute [glow=red,2,300]B4LLICKS[/glow]
