What do you all think of Marsden coming out of retirement ?
He used to be very good but coming out of retirement....will he count ?

Impact sub, good move, they need every extra edge they can get. He's only 33, so why not, if he has the fitness & hunger. No substitute for class...... The old guard will believe this is Armagh's final good chance to do the business, with some new talent now blending in. Hard to know what will happen, as I would imagine they will gear everything to peak in the late summer, they dont really need to prove anything in the League or Ulster, except maybe putting down markers against rivals

I always like Marsden. His sending off in the 2003 final was shameful. He took it in a dignified manner and walked off while the guy who feigned injury got a medal.

il agree with mickmack above. He should never have been sent off but took it like a man. I think he earned alot of respect for that. On the subject of coming out of retirement??? He must be performing well at club level if hes being considered.

aye, a definate last resort. a bit like Galway bringing back Fallon last year, somethings up if theres not a fresh fit 21 year old with some talent ready to fill the void.

Never any harm in bringing in a top player into a squad, especially with a fair few new lads trying to settle. Word has it that Marsden has been in great fettle for his club (Tones?), and that the only reason he retired from IC was to spend more time with his young family.
"A Marsden a day, will he help Armagh play"? I'd say yes. On the other hand, I felt that at the time he retired, he hadnt been doing so well, seemed to have lost pace, and coming back into this level must be hard. No doubt his role will be more of a ball-winner & distributor

The psychology of "the comeback" is very interesting I think. On the plus side, there's much less pressure on a player like Marsden to be "the main man" up front, as that role has long been taken on by the likes of McDonnell,Clarke, Mallon et al (incidentally, Clarke & Mallon have been out, so all the more reason to need experienced cover) The pressure on him is the motivation to prove himself to the regular & younger members of the squad, whilst he wont worry that Armagh's chances of success depend too much on him, and he can focus also on helping other players around him. This should free up the returning player to just play his game, and also be a kind of father-figure to less experienced players. Reminds me of doing volunteer work!

twas Armagh half forward line that let them down last year.
It all depends on what sort of shape Marsden is in. If he is injury free it could be a masterstroke. form is temporary...... class is permanent.

Also its Joes last year its probably Geezers last year and now Marsden is back. You really get the feeling Armagh are making one last push. As it stands they will be as close as anyone to winning it this year.

Armagh should forget about the ulster championship. Build up a head of steam in the qualifiers as they in in 2003. In the last few years they won ulster and were mugged by Fermanagh in 2004, Tyrone in 2005 and kerry in 2006.... all of them coming through the back door. thats my advise to Big Joe and to Big Mac!
