Rockies, I think you'll find that soccer is worse. Rugby to be fair, for the few games I've been at, do respect the players and refs.

it is a given in rugby that the ref is respected. Part of the culture so to speak. Only the captain speaks to the ref in most cases and by and large it works. You would really have to try and instill this in young lads from day one and unfortunately this is not the case in the GAA. It doesn't help when their elders are seen acting the way they do. there are a lot of things we can learn from other sports that don't involve rule changes. this is one.

Thank god this mother has done nothing to that level. I can see how it can happen but it is wrong. The ref and other officals have a thankless job really. they really cant win. I find myself on the side line more offen with KY so I have to set an example for the players. I just shut up and under the breath...

I was at an under 14 final tonight and i have to say i was disgusted a the abuse thrown at one of the teams from the management. "Kick the f*cking ball Shane, how many times do i have to tell ya to kick the f*cking ball down the f*cking field" The next pearl and i laughed out loud at the managers stupidity on this one (Directed at the same player might i add) "when your playing with the wind, kick the f*cking ball long and high, youve been playing long enough now to know how to play the f*cking game!!!"
All this at a poor 13 year old boy frozen in the driving wind and rain...
Theres no doubt in my mind that if my young fella was abused in this manner then id call the manager aside and ram his words down his throat.
How are young boys and girls supposed to enjoy the game when this level of verbal abuse is directed at them?

Everybody should read weshieonsport article on the back page of the kerrymans sports section this week.Theres far too much knackerism tolerated at all levels of the gaa.As someone onthis forum said,it has become a culture of the gaa which is quiet sad.

I remember our backs at U12 level being told "stick to your man like sh*t to a blanket!" Absolute classic! That conjures all sorts of images in an 11 year old's brain!

All managers should have to do a full coaching course. I had to do one for the underage girls program. I cant be near the kids or sideline without this cert. It was enlighten and interesting. Wake up call. I can if considered out of order of like be brought before the Board. I think this should be enforced at minor level. To be a manager or trainer etc you have to have taken the course. You can just walk in to a club today and say ok I will take this team and mickey there will take the other team. Nip it now before it get any worse

Thought ye'd be interested in seeing this: www.hoganstand.com/Cork/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=77483I'm sure ye'll be glad to see the Cork county board taking these bans seriously. Although if I was him... I'd have told them where to stick the managers job.
